You'd have to be a fool to purchase a 1st year anything. And don't think because it is a Cummins engine it wound have major problems. Just the idea of an EGR is bad enough let alone that multi-thousand $$$ exhause system.

What does that multi-thousand $$$ exhaust system consist of?

The exhaust system has the new particulate trap incorporated into it. Plus there are two fuel lines leading to this trap ... fore and aft. These traps are known to cost well over $1000, even several thousand. DC claims that they should last over 150,000 miles before they need to be replaced ... we all know what claims are worth.

I'm sure that it will be virtually impossible to bypass or remove this trap without censors and/or failing emissions/inspections.

And don't forget the EGR cloggin up the intake.

I have a VW Jetta TDI, and one of the first things I had done to it was to have the EGR virtually turned off via a computer hookup.

There won't be any such thing for the new Cummins.

Well, got the truck. Put about 300 miles on it today. It rides really good; better than any 4x4 I've ever had. It's not as responsive as my last Dodge, but once you really lean into the throttle and get some spool, it accelerates pretty well. The fly-by-wire accelerator is no-doubt the culprit. I assume the smarty or other gadget will help this. No worry... . It'll do just fine just as it is for a while. The "Bombing" bug will visit sometime in the future, no doubt. No need to rush his arrival... :D

Aloha,Go to carsondodge.com In Carson City Nevada 06 four door 31k Megas around 33 35k depending on Model. Duallys my brother in law got one for 34k. 4 door not mega 6spd long bed slt. Aloha Ron

Just bought me a 06 Quad cab Laramie 2500 today, I wasn't really ready to buy one yet but I didn't want an 07 just because it will be mostly new and have tougher emissions equipment. I pick the truck up Monday and by the way I am keeping the 01 as a play toy. Technically the 06 is the wifes.

Well, guys, got me an '06 3500 SRW 4x4 Mega Cab 5. 9L, 6 speed manual this past weekend. I am EXTREMELY happy with the choice and am very glad I now own 2 last year models of the late 12 and 24 valve 5. 9L Cummins engines. One's a toy and one's the daily :D :-laf .

Sure is a difference from the 'ol 12v '98, :-laf I got the manual 6 speed and you guys were sure right, I would be hatin' life if the thing had 4. 10 gears... . it's running 80mph@2700rpm in 6th gear with these 3. 73s. Sure is nice when you need to get up and go in the high gears. That boost comes on and she passes cars like their standin' still. :D

Good luck to others whom may be deciding like I was about whether to wait for the 6. 7L or to grab a 5. 9L before their gone... ... . :D ;)

Well I've been sneaking around these forums for the better part of a year trying to convince myself that my old Z-71 was worn out enough with 160K on her to go down and pick up my first Cummings. . After reading through this post and the others concerning the additional headaches and restrictions involved with owning an '07 or later I went down Monday morning and picked up my new truck! Thanks for all of the great info and education you guys provide! I am convinced that the TDR saved me from waiting too long!

Ok, finally got some pics of the new rig. Camera has been busted, so you guys probably thought I never even got the thing, but here it is. :) Just took them at the end of the day after getting the transmission out of the '98 in prep for the Iron Giant.

I just got a new 07' 3500

From what I'm told, don't wait. I got an early model 07 it's duel fuel, I can modify the engine and exhaust if I want.

But is you wait for the new trucks, thats all out the window. Touch it and the warranty is out the window. Besides the first year is full of bugs, let someone else figure them out. The only thing I can tell that is different between the 06 and the 07 is the tail light covers.

My last 04. 5' was heavily modified and had the auto transmission, my new truck is getting a new K&N Filter and thats it! I bought this one for the 6 speed manual transmission. It will tow my 33' 5th better.

I would't wait for the 07. 5 to come out!
