Ian, we saw you coming in and out. It can be pretty slow to load on a dial up. Otherwise I don't know what to tell you. Keep trying.

Based on the chat we had last night I say its on its way back. Great chat last night. Lets build on what we have.

I have been on the web for years. Never did the the "chat" thing. It was cool talking to you guys. If I am home or somewhere I can get WiFi service I'll be there next Sunday. Karl

I keep seeing this thread over and over......

I have some questions?

1. Why is it dying?

2. Why is participation low?

3. Whats the difference in GLTDR and TDR. . I know 1 is a chapter but what sets you apart?

4. Why is there no threads or advertising of ANY kind concerning membership?

5. Are the chat sessions open to only GLTDR members or TDR guys in the great lakes area?

6. Im sure there are "standing days" for meetings but are there any "reminders" sent out a day or two b4 meeting? Alot on minds this time of year with pulls, work, vacations, and general misbehavin's.

7. Is GLTDR kinna spread out (geography wise)?

8. Could GLTDR stay and have "sub chapters"?

I've seen some of your posts and if seen enough to know yall are a great group of guys. . even taken some advice from past threads. . thanks BTW. :D Hope all goes well

Which chat room? TDR or GLTDR? What time? See what I mean? I did, however, check out BOTH chat rooms. I get the point. I was the only one there. (8:21 PM) But WHY??? Is it Geography? Too spread out = lack of comradeary or lack of events? (Being so spread out attendance @ events are low) Are you welcoming new members? Do your present members make others ask "Well, how can I be part of GLTRD also"? (by hosting events, get togethers, ect. ) I dont feel its the "dues". I do however feel you have a great "core". Like I said, I've never met any of you(GLTDR),but I fe viewed your threads, headed to your advise, and saved myself both time and $$! I respect GLTRD and its members. I say let it LIVE! I guess GLTDR should just put a more local spin on TDR. If you can find a great way to do just that it will live long enough you will have 10th generation CTD in attendance!

"IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME!"

I will try to answer some of your questions to the best of my ability.

1) Maybe "dying" is a little harsh. No communication to speak of through the membership is what I see. It didn't help when the "president" disappeared with no contact.

2) I wish I knew the answer to that one. We try to bring people into the chat room on Sunday nights to conduct chats to get to know each other and set things up for the club.

3) Local Chapters bring camaraderie.

4) The contact info for the chapters are in the magazine and also listed on this website for people to act upon if they so desire.

5) The chat room is open to anyone who wants to come by and join in.

6) A reminder is sent out the day of the chat session every week.

7) The club is very spread out. Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York are the states that the club covers. Way too big an area if we don't have people to set up local events in place. That cannot be done because of the lack of participation in the chat room.

8) We would love to set up "sub" chapters. See the above answer about lack of participation in the chat room.

I don't have all the answers. I started this thread to open some eyes and to try and come up with some answers and more participation in the chat room.

In other words, I don't want the chapter to die, I want it to get back to the great chapter it once was. I cannot do it alone. I do appreciate the help some have given but it takes time.

I don't want to run around in circles answering you. The only thing I can say is it takes more than names on a membership list to make a chapter. I don't care if you have 200 members, it takes the participation of the members to make the club run. No-one seems to be in the chat room with the exception of the Secretary and the Treasurer on most Sundays. If we are there at 8:00pm Central time and no-one else comes in by 8:15, we call it a night. Dennis and I communicate through the use of phones to talk about what we are thinking most of the time.

David

By the way, it is the chat room which is accessed through the GLTDR website, not the TDR chat room :)

David, Thanks for taking the time to answering all those questions. :D It seems to me (maybe Im wrong... and if Im wrong Im wrong) that in each answer you provided me they all share the same common denomatior. Participation. So now what? maybe I should shut up and join, huh? :-laf

P. s. I'm sorry for the grammar. . its so bad spell check cant figure it out.

Maybe you should:) We understand that everyone can't come into the chat room every Sunday night, and everyone is busy, but the club is not going anywhere without the input from the masses.

Can any fellow GLTDR members make it to our South Mich. dyno day ?? Would love to meet some new folks. This should be a great event (weather permitting). This dyno day is for every diesel head that might be wandering around out there. If you can make it it will be held in Jackson, MI 49203 Look it up on mapquest, if you're interrested in the drive i'll give out specific directions.

I would like to see the GLTDR survive. I do agree the GLTDR needs to be split up. New York is way to far for me to travel, even Penn. In my eyes the GLTDR should be MI, IN, OH, and parts of, if not all of ILL.

The only thing i have to show i'm a member is my window badge. I never got a password or anything of the such. But the 10 bucks was worth it for the 15 extra horse power the window badge gave my truck!!!!!! LOL

I'm too abscent minded to make it Sun. nights. Have too much going on, winding down from a very hard weekend getting ready to go back to work just to rest.

I'll try harder to make it sundays

Curtis

Well, its all about priorities. David and I can have a vote every Sunday to do something, but it does not feel right making decisions with only the two of us. Come, participate and lets make it grow.

Dennis

I agree the GLTDR is too big or to say it another way the coverage area is to broad but what to do Some talk of a sub chapter thing but is not the GLTDR really a SUB chapter of thr TDR? I want to join but have trouble joining in my mind when except for a sitcker what does the GLTDR do for me that I can not do in the TDR web site? By looking at the people that use the GLTDR web site I must not be alone in my thinking. so what's next? I do not know I think it is time for state chapters not a club that goes from the atlantic ocean to the MISSISSIPPI river Illinois to newyork too big. just a thought I am thinking outloud. this problem will correct itself if more members do not care to join in on sunday night chat the club will dislove all by it self due to a lack of new ideas ect. :{

If no one will show up for weekly sunday meets in the Gltdr chat room why not make it by-weekly or once a month? just a thought since it is summer and all. :)
