Side Lights

Anyone done anything slick as far as mounting lights that shine on the rear wheels. I mean to be used as a light to see curbs and such while parking at night. I really can't see a curb while looking in the mirror at night.

I too, have given this some thought... ... . Depending on ones taste or lack thereof there are a few things one can consider. The neon light kits that they sell for the LOW RIDERS or just a plain old everyday driving or backup light mounted up underneath the pickup bed would illuminate the area nicely... ... I would aim at the ground or angled slightly out so as not to blind anyone JIC you should leave it on while driving.

I have a 55W jabsco (3x5) marine flood in each front wheelwell mounted off a corner of the shock tower with about a 1 1/2" tab to move the light out far enough to clear. Additionally, I have the same jabsco light mounted under the end of my runing boards, shining back over rear wheels and out about 20 degrees. Have enough light to chain up any wheel in the dark. Also works for iluminating street signs to the side, provides light for camping, and worked really well when I lived on a steep sidehill for helping me see to back my trailer up at night.

How long have you had this setup? The lights in the wheel wells must take a heck of a soaking. Sounds like you killed a whole flock of birds with that stone. And have 360 illumination.

I have used this setup for the last five years. Have not lost a single light due to rock strikes or other problems. The lights are a sealed flood that go into the mounting case. They are made for the marine industry, which is very hard on things electrical. I use them on my boat and on the trailer as well. Only dark spot is off to the side next to the club cab part of the truck.

I figured since they were marine grade lights they'd take a good beatin'. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Thanks for the info.

All, thanks for the ideas, I am in family discrace since I backed over my grand son's wagon . They won't buy the old eyes excuse. The duel wheels made a pancake of that wagon, now they want me to get a hearing aid also, they can't understand why I did not hear it crunching.

Sorry to hear about the circumstances of your newly identified need. The diesel makes plenty of noise on its own, a little wagon crushin' can't be heard over that. These 3500's are like dockin' the Queen Mary sometimes and being dark doesn't help either. Good auxillary back up lights and a back up sensor might just be the ticket for you. Geno's has both. "Accidents" happen... ... could've been much worse..... It wasn't intentional otherwise, they would call it a "on purpose". I've been considering the backup sensor myself. Don't beat yourself up... . And that goes for family too... . count your lucky stars no one got hurt and do what's necessary to keep it from happening again. ( walk behind/around the truck before movin' it ).

Here are the side lights I put on my truck.

These are sealed LED lights and have a 10,000 hour life rating.

It puts out some good light, I see the reflection off of cars beside me.

Eshaw, there was no one home except me that night so I was pretty sure it was safe to back up. I always make sure and adult can tell me that the kids are accounted for before I move the truck. It turns out one of the other kids in the area had returned the wagon in the dark and just left it in the drive.



Son in law did not make many points with me when he said HIS dad would have been able to hear the CRUNCH in his FORD. I quickly pointed out that the FORD would not have had enough power to crush the wagon. Ain't family life great!

Dodges 2 Stuff in Driveway 0

Thursday my wife calls me at work to see if she left her palm pilot in the truck. I go out and don't find it. The day proceeds to turn into a SHTF sort of day. Get home and she asks me if I found it and is dismayed with my answer so I go to look again. As I'm walking through the garage and look out onto the driveway I see, looks a little distorted but it had a leather cover and had rained the night before. Open it up and realize it got the short end of the stick. The then askes, "didn't you hear something go crunch?" I told her to think about that one and besides, if I heard a crunch it would be too late. I know this doesn't have a lot to do with the topic at hand but like sharing it to get it off my chest.

It seems that the wagon had a destiny... ... Maybe it'll come back as parts to a Powerstroke or Duramax. It'll be used to bein' STOMPED by the CUMMINS..... Tell your S. I. L. to shut his pie hole or you'll STOMP his wagon !!!!!! I say all of this with comedic intent... ... Not lookin' to start a war or anything... ... Just glad no one got hurt... ... That's # 1 priority.

About the Palm Pilot thing..... I'm sure if you had heard the crunch and immediately ran in the house with it and said "Honey, I found your P. P. It was in the driveway and I accidentally ran over it. " That would have been fine... . She wouldn't be angry at all..... :-{} Yeah... ... Yeah..... I hear ya flappin'

I woulda ran over it again just to make sure.
