Hey guys, i have a 2005 cummins auto with 220k that has been an amazing truck. Recently I have been noticing alot of oil on the underside of truck. Has been like that for awhile but never concerned me too much. Last oil change I was negligent and had not been monitoring oil...when changed oil was very low....replaced oil and was high after change. Now after about 1000 miles oil is at normal level which means i spit a fair amount of oil out...now since I had truck. Old oil caked round the bottom of oil pan at timing cover near injection pump/vacumn pump(hard to see top of leak to pinpoint) what could be causing this amount of leak?

-Truck has almost no blowby whatsoever.
-I recently cleaned out but not replaced CCV on valve cover
-no other leaks on truck
-does not have fuel or coolant in oil
-have noticed significant mileage drop though.

There is a cap/ cover in the timing cover to access the CP3 fuel pump gear bolts. Possible for that to be dislodged?*

Yes sir that could def be the tappet cover being loose...im not really concerned as much with that. I am concerned with the exponential leak through the breather tube. I do not believe the slow leak through the tappet cover would cause that

A leak at the front of the engine that is bad enough will coat the underside of the truck all the way to the rear diff, if you have a lot of oil at the front of the engine on the front of the timing cover it is either the plastic plug for the CP-3 access has cracked, or, the accessory case gasket to the block has a leak, or, the dipstick plug behind the ECU is leaking. Either is fairly common, you will have to clean it up and track the source.

A CR engine does not have a tappet cover or a vacuum pump to promote leaks, they have different places to check.

Cerb, yes by my looking so far it appears the leak up near the front is behind and above the power steerig pump. Yes sir I know the CR has neither those pieces. but none of the oil present is fresh oil nor is the oil pan coated. The majority of my leak is indefinitely coming from ccv breather tube. Now i changed the fuel filter today and there was not only crud in the bottom of the bowl but also appeared to have a slightly blackish look to it versus the normal alight blueish color of bowl reflecting through the diesel. I run Baldwin's every 10k...could a leak through my tired injectors someho get into bowl?*

No. no way to get fuel into in the diesel. The black crud in the fuel is likely asphaltenes being cooked out of the fuel and showing up as the black sludge in the filter housing, that is pretty typical with ULSD fuel.

For the oil leakage do you have a steady stream of smoke coming out of the crank case vent?

No sir it is not smoke so much as a haze. When i first start up cold truck in morning it has a lil bit of white smoke as it should at 220k, but thats it. After warm if you look under truck the breather will haze a bit but def not smoking. I have at multiple points tested the blowby at oil cap and it barely spins with no pressure whatsoever. But it will haze a bit out of there to but in appearance its hazy vapor not smoke.

Clean it all up as well as possible and start checking for fresh oil. It is possible you have some broken rings that are pushing compression out and oil when rpms come up but that is hard to catch even with a compression test.

It might run fine but still have broken rings that are pushing at higher rpms, especially if you suspect injector issues. A little to much fuel will drive cylinder pressures higher and that takes a toll eventually. A compression test might spot the problem, otherwise, a leak down test would but they are lot harder to run and get solid info from.

Hmm so basically just run it then? Lol well i am going to monitor this oil so far its maintained. So could anything injector related cause this also?

Cerb wouldnt a leaking or broken ring show blowby of some level? Like i will get in it Nd run it hard then when i get home still nothing in signs of blowby?
