to get your silence ring out, pull the hose off the turbo that comes from the air filter box. you'l see a snap ring-it doesn't have holes in it like you might expect. use a small screwdriver and lift one end out and work it around till it falls out then just pull the piece it holds in out, it doesn't amount to much but make quite a bit of difference-love that whistle.

Silencer Ring

Wish I could enjoy hearing the whistle. My wife hears it all the time. I guess I'm slightly hearing impaired as she says quite frequently " Get a da - n hearind aid". That will have to wait until the truck has all it's goodies.

If I remove it, is it good for any extra power?

Theoretically removing the ring should actually reduce power since it would affect the air flow by making it more turbulant.

In practicality, it makes no discernable difference & is a matter of sound perference.

IMHO that if you:

1) Use stock air box: removing ring=slightly increases sound & sounds good!

2) If you use no air box & a K&N round style filter: removing ring results in a totally obnoxious whistle that actually obstructs proper stereo listening. It also resonates out the back of a straight exhaust. Since I ended up w/ both I put the ring back in & sounds just right (to me) but everyone's hearing acuteness is different.

My recommendation?

DON'T destroy it when you remove it so you can have a choice down the road. Its easy to get out w/o wrecking it--Just lift one of the ends of the ring out of the groove & gently work your way around. A very small screw driver will work. I drilled a tiny hole so that I could easily get under the ring to get it started w/o damaging anything.

Does removing the silencer ring have any adverse affects on performance or longevity of the Turbo? Or is it just that- a silencer for noise reasons.
