3rd Gen Twins

For a daily driver in the 500 range i would go with the twins. A matched set of twins will behave very well for you.

Silver Bullet

With having the silver Bullet and towing a 15,000 lb gooseneck dump trailer with my 287B Cat track machine in it, I can honestly say twins may be the answer, never towed with them but starting out on a minor slope will leave the cars behind you in the dark and I mean DARK!!! I am considering twins but not sold on them, to see my dually run a 12. 76 in the 1/4 mile and still even think about pulling a 15k trailer im happy enough to leave it alone right now... ... . Lets leave the arguements aside on this comment because I dont need to hear any more in regards to my high EGT's but yes its been known to spike at over 2000 degrees, and no the motor has not blown up. I have over 50k miles on the motor with this setup and yes it is laggy for the first 100 feet but at 101 feet HOLD ON!!!!

Hope this helps

The Super 64 was built just for second gen 500 to 600 Hp trucks, the same HP range as the BD twins... My SPS 62 is awesome and couldn't see spending the extra money for twins when a SPS 64 would give him great street manners and support the power he going for... It's up to you MillerTim, but I would go with the SPS 64... Call Industrail Injection and ask them about their Super 64. Twins are nice, but not all that anymore... "IMO"

Tim,

500+ Hp would put you in the SPS 62 range turbo which drives very nice..... If you want to step it up look into the SPS64. The 66mm turbos are really for max HP guys. You will get a much more streetable turbo with the 62 or 64 turbos. The SPS64 will produce between 550-600 HP.

Companies really overrate thier turbos for HP! There is a diffrence between achieveable HP and sustained/supportable HP. Sure there are some 62's out there that have made 500 HP on the dyno but when you drive them they cant cool things down enough! I am right around the 500 HP mark and I can max out my egt's on the flats at 45 lbs or so, when I head to the mountains or hook up a trailer its a joke even at lower HP levels. I love my 66 and it can make some HP on the dyno but I have seen a few sets of BD twins making over 600 HP and have no worries about egt's when driving/racing/pulling. BD probably rates their turbos the closest out thier. If you have the money go with the twins!

My dually weighed in at 8,040 pounds, and trapped 101. 6 with a PS62. No smoke at all after launch with 90hp DDP injectors. I pull a trailer with 11-12000 pounds on occassion and it does great. . I picked my turbo for a great deal. For that cost, I'm very happy with it. . I'm sure the BD twins making the same hp would be better for towing, but not on the wallet.

I've seen the BD twins and there not very big, so if I where in his shoes "with his" mods a SPS 64 would be just as efficient at cooling and with out the drive pressure of twins not to mention the cost... Sure the twins might spool a little faster, but that would be about it. That being said, the Silver 62 is the latest and the greatest and have no doubt that with your mods would spool like crazy and keep you nice and cool. :-laf

Well Tim Ive had the same questions you did but I went with the Bd twins. I love them and havent had any problem. Ive towed 10,000lbs and raced it. I went a 8. 38 in the 1/8 with a transmission that was fried. The truck is a great ever day driver until I went with the Mach 6 and then I noticed sum problems just havent takin the time to fix it yet. I peg my 60psi boost gauge and still pulling and maybe 1375 degree. Try summit I got mine for $2895. 00 they match the price of another compay. I believe with all the money we put in the truck buy what you want and dont let the money stop you, there like harleys do it right the first time instead of keep change parts.

I think alot of these difference come around to the way you are fueling. If you are running some really big sticks then you are going to have alot of heat. If the injectors are of a more moderate size and you use more of the fuel system to gain power with timing and pressure increases then temps will be more manageable.

For some guys a quick spooling PS6280 or SPS6280 is ideal. the spool great and flow well. if you are pushing teh limit on it think about upgrading the intercooler to bring your charge temp down or maybe water/meth. Still less money than twins.

I, however, love my BD twins. They have performed well on my 3rd gen and I have no temp issues yet. I have sold and installed several sets and have yet to hear a complaint about temps, or spoolup for that fact. You get what you pay for, and for some set ups twins aren't right or are overkill, and for some a single just isn't practical.

When I talked to II when I bought my Silver 62 they told me that it would out flow any 64 turbo out there. I have never seen over 1350 with it. once this thing spools the temps drop to 1100 and stay there it seems the more fuel you give this thing the faster it spools and the better it cools :) . Hope to have it on a dyno soon again Oo. .

I would have to say if you dont want to wrench on it all the time just get a Silver 62 or a Super Stock 62 from HTT and go with that. Twins are invariably something you tinker with all the time whereas a single is a single and if you get a small one with a big wheel on it and a big wastegate you can have a bunch of fun.
