I also decided to go with the Silver Bullet after talking with the guys at I. I. .

Only problem is it won't be ready in time to try it out at the NHRDA event being held here in Montana this weekend. :{ I guess there is always next year.

I can't wait to see how the truck reacts to having it.

Well I have been hitting 55 psi with mine which is were it is set at from II. I met Brady down at Indy in the warehouse parking lot burnout session, he said not to push more than 65 psi out of it with nitrous, and when they were testing they pushed it up to 90 psi before it popped. I know a couple pullers running lots of fuel have been popping these turbos though. Pulls hard but still has some lag between shifts on a stick.

After 65 psi it starts beating on the thrust bearing, they are in work on a fix for that. Unlike some others I have have no need to push it that hard but did push the SPS 66 up to 65 on the bottle. I was concerned about this so I ordered a 38mm wastegate to put in the manifold and vent to the down pipe but I have no need for it yet.

Jim

38mm I was thinking 50mm when I get the chance, were did you get yours? Turbonetics has a sweet 50mm hinged style wastegate but they are getting like $900 for it, thats crazy?

that was my only complaint with mine... the transitional boost was sluggish... with my sps62, if you had 10psi on the gauge, the needle was off to the races... with the bullet, the needle swung a good deal slower...

recovering from a high RPM shift, the 62 is BAM instant 45psi, the bullet the needle is kinda lazy getting back up there

Yeah I am throwing plenty fuel at it, have the strip/pulling cam stage 2 head so the air flow should be there, and the lag is still there between shifts, looking like an automatic may be the way to go.

I will say as Jim has already said, the tunning is very important. The transmission is also a place you can adjust spooling. Now after saying that, the Silver Bullet can and will be a very agressive turbo for you to make hp. It likes fuel and it likes it well atomized for quick spooling. The 3rd Gen trucks have very well atomized fuel delivery. The Silver Bullet has been a nice addition to 2nd gen and 3rd gen trucks but like Jim said, it is not the right turbo if the tuning and fuel delivery is not right. We do have a Silver Bullet 62 for those trucks that need quicker spooling and have less fuel delivery. Our new designed Silver Bullet 64 is also a nice option to help spooling. BUT our Silver Bullet makes great hp and has been running very fast in Drag Racing. I personally tow my RV and a very large boat with mine. I like towing fast and find the extra hp made with the Silver Bullet is a very nice extra when I run into a large MTN. Thanks

So what's a good atomizing injector?

Hey Jim

Any problems with the SB ?

Sent in my 62 to be upgraded to a SB, had 10k on it no problems other than getting hot on top end.

Got less than 3k out of my SB and had to rebuild. II said contamination.

Not happy $400 ever 3k miles aint gonna work.

Anybody body want a newly rebuilt SB resonable. Sorry cant say CHEAP

because I got to much money in it.

I still having a really good time with the turbo but I do want to say that this is a Big Turbo and you have to drive it as such. I've put it in just about every situation except towing and high altitude, that will come shortly on a road trip to Salt Lake City via every mountain in between.

I did so some drive pressure checks yesterday as requested so here they are.

Boost/Drive

30/20

40/35

47/47

40 psi test was holding 40 for a bit... ... no big deal

47 psi was a run from say 40 to 110-120 mph

I didn't test past this power level, Water/Meth the boost stays about the same and adding a . 093 stage of N2O only took boost up to 52... ... . (no I didn't check drive pressure) something about watching the road at 800+ hp!

Jim

Jim, I'm curious as I know nothing about N20. What do your EGTs do when you hit the N2O?

Also, what gears and tire size are you running?

3. 54 and 265/75's

On gas if you using both solenoids it does fine I guess, it's really hard to watch anything other than the road, most stuff is caught at a glance. If your using one solenoid, either the . 063 or . 093 it goes lean and the EGT get real high, use both..... more N2O it cools back down. I jumped on it yesterday doing this testing cause I had a N2O problem (fryed a solenoid) so it was just with the . 093 running wide open, EGT's were around 1850, I've seen 1900 in the past.

Jim

hey jim or anyone else for that matter im looking for a new turbo since mine is working on destroying itself shaft play is pretty bad. anyways ive followed this thread and several others. i think the silver 62 or maybe a 64 would work well for me what do you think. i was thinking a 64 since it will let me move up hp wise but whats the 62 capable of? one thing to keep in mind i do wanna go to twins at some point. would this make a good top turbo for twins?

Well you could rebuild your existing turbo and use it as the top turbo for Twins, Me I would run a Silver 62 if I were buying one!

I've just seen a different story with the Silver series, seeing how it gets rid of exhaust and keeps drive pressures down. The main thing with upgrading to Twins is you can just add the down pipe and bottom turbo, the wastegate works really well so there is no need in adding another one.

Don't know if you know but I ran a SPS 66 and Big Brother Twin setup like this for almost 2 years.

Jim

Jim, I just heard you are comming out this way. That sounds very cool. You will have to stop in some time. Go for a dig in our Race truck! This new Big single that Shane has made for our truck is awesome. You are right about the SPS62/80 or the Silver Bullet 62/80 being a very nice towing turbo on it's own or you could later use it in Twins as the top charger. We can reconfigure the turbo to be optimized for our Twins, but it will do a very nice job as is. Thanks, Brady PS, Looking forward to it. Red Rocks, very cool!

so what your saying is i could rebuild and find another turbo for a twin setup. or if i where to buy another turbo when this one junks then a silver 62 would be a good replacment?

also what would make a good bottom turbo with either or one or the other? my hp goals are something like 800-1000 and still be good with egts if possible.

Well decide now what your going to build for in the HP game so you do it once. Seeing that you have a 24V I would still go with a Silver 62 and a S400 on bottom, I say that because I know there are some trick wheels for them. It's all up to you to say with and rebuild your existing turbo.

That statement of High HP and good EGT should never be used in the same Paragraph, it will not happen. High HP will get you high EGT's, you cannot get enough air in the motor as the head is too restrictive.
