I was talked out of that for reasons I hadn't thought of. One, it may cause a lot of echo in the rear wheel well causing an unwanted drone. Second, any soot you may get on your bed with a normal exhaust exit will now collect on your rear wheel. I'm pretty sure that'll suck to clean.

Once I was given those reasons I decided to exit as normal and am very pleased with it.

True for sure on that soot!!! I did that for a while on my Isuzu years back. It would completely black out the rear wheel.

Mine exits behind the rear wheel and sounds great! I concur with the others, soot would sucky sucky to clean... The closer to the cab the exhaust comes out = more cab noise.

I did mine a year ago. I exit just in front of the rear wheel and extended the tip just beyond the outside of the tire. NO SOOT! It is louder, but no drone. My idle time for turbo cool down dropped in half.
What size pipe did you go with ???

Straight pipe or Muffled ??

Had Rip's shorty exhaust on my 96'. Sounded great from the drivers side. Too loud for the wife as passenger. Extended it to exit out the rear.

Don't do it

I had mine turned out in front of the tire and it looked great and sounded good but the soot on the aftermarket rims gets old quick. I have one rim that is damn near ruined from soot. People told me not to do it but I was stupid and did not listen and wished I would have. I had to clean mine at least twice a week to keep it from being pure black. DON'T DO IT

NO, unless you like polishing wheels, and loud noise in the cab. I did that before and it is a MESS! Put it behind the rear wheels, much cleaner and 10 times as quite in the cab. IMHO, sounds better too.

I guess Cummins4Life dosent post on this board, though im sure he reads here! His avitar always cracks me up. he has a pic of his side exit before the rear wheel and then of course his black rim. He lists all his bombs in his sig and finishes it up with " and one black rim"

I had the straight pipe exhaust on my 92 coming out in front of the rear wheel because I put a fuel tank where the spare tire used to be. I had no noise or drone issues with it, maybe a little soot on the bottom of the quarterpanel otherwise very good. Original exhaust was still on at 185k when I sold it. Fact of the matter I wish I still had that old 12V instead of my current 24V.

my exhaust is cut off as the bed starts with no muff or cats. The thing sounds like a damn knocking jet engine. I always get looks and it is loud. Not bad at driving with windows up but when they are down it is loud.

A cross between a tractor and jet engine...

I am looking to replace the stock exhaust with a 4" system (turbo back). I want the free flow without the noise of some systems I've heard. The worst I have heard was a class A pusher with duals. It sounded like a dump truck.

I don't mind mine. Truck is a little dirty, and exhaust beat up and bent from rocks, but it does not stick out past the rear tire and my rims do not get sooty. First time posting a pic on here... ... no idea what it will look like. By the way, my truck smokes a little black. I don't mind it, but when I get my twin's one day and new 5 inch it will be out the back.

Man that is a small pic. How the heck does everyone post big pics. Kept telling me I was over the size limit until I made it that small.

Had mine pointing outward before the rear axle, but not out to the edge. Seemed like it was pretty darn loud at high speeds as far as drone. I then put a 6" Silverline tip on at like 18" long. It reduced the cab noise, but REALLY enhanced the sound outside.

Now I took off the turn before the rear axle and just put that 6" tip pointing straight back. Like the loud whistle and roar heard from more angles now!

Yeah, there was a soot thing with the six inch tip pointing out the side.

For the worse I take it. ???
