I used slick 50 in an olds 455. Upon teardown, the heads were totally covered in goo. No way for oil to drain back down to the pan. Most of the "teflon" was up in the heads, not on the wear surfaces. biggest waste of money, next to my Ex-first wife, that I spent.

My brother and I both had 1986 Ford Tempo diesels. My brother put slick 50 in his at around 60K. From that point on it burned about a quart every 800 miles. I never touch the stuff and at 186K mine never used any oil between changes (3-5K). He also had to gut his bypass filter because it would have plugged it. At next oil change he put new bypass on...
I would still have mine if a Grand Am hadn't crossed the center line in a corner and hit it head on...

Hope all occupants walked away in good health. Off topic here, but just wondering who won, the Tempo or the Grand Am. I had a 1984 Mercury version of the Tempo prior to purchasing my current car, a 1989 Grand Am. Personally I thought the Mercury was a piece of junk, especially compared to the Grand Am, which is still going at 208K. Just wondering which won structurally.

My personal experience with Slick 50: I bought an Oldsmobile from a friend for $50, in perfect shape except for Slick 50 damage. The Teflon "platelets" had settled out of the Slick 50 and made a slick muck pudlen in the lifter valley. The muck clogged oil drain passages, and clogged the passage that supplies oil to the timing chain. Timing gears disintegrated and valves met pistons head-on. I replaced the bent pushrods, spent the better part of a week cleaning the Slick 50 muck out, and put the engine back together with a new gasket set, and filled it with Amsoil! Other than a badly worn camshaft, the engine was in rather good shape (NOT a tribute to Slick 50!!!) It ran pretty darn well for a few years until it broadsided a Ford pickup that ran a stop sign. So thanks to slick 50, I had a pretty decent Olds 98 for a total of about $250 plus two weeks of aggravating spare time labor! But I wouldn't put the stuff in an outhouse door hinge!!!

well i whole heartetly disagree, slick 50 is a very good product. period
we use it on our pockect knives, gerbers and leatherman tools.
they always open and close very smoothly and no teflon build up
I can attest to its efficiency on pocket tools... . as far as engines if it was so good the manufacturers would put it in the carat the plant and oil manufacturers would use it in their oil
sooooo no we dont use in engines
B... ... ... ...

STAY AWAY FROM SLICK50. Get a good synthetic and change the oil and filter based upon your driving conditions. Slick50 is Slick Marketing. Add powdered teflon to a quart of oil and you get slick50. The teflon could clog your oil filter.

BTW slick 50 does not have teflon in it. Once the manufacturer cought wind of what it was doing, they stopped selling to slick 50.

In response to your questions about my Tempo diesel. .
1. My wife ended up with a broken collar bone where her seat belt rested on it. This probably wouldn't have occured if our 100 lb. blk lab wasn't in the seat behind her at the time. When he hit the back of her seat it bent it forward and seat belt was holding my wife, and the seat in place. My wife and our two dogs recovered...
The driver in the Grand Am wasn't wearing his seatbelt and he broke two ribs and his right arm and leg. As far as I know he is fine now, although he had his license revoked because he had no insurance and did not pay for damages...

As for how the two cars fared:
My car had the engine against the firewall and the roof of the car was slightly buckeled. All four doors would still open and close. The passenger compartment was intact but the floor on the passenger side had started to heave under the front seat (very slightly)
The Grand Am had the passenger side dashboard sitting up against the front seat. They had to cut the car open to get the guy out. The floor had heaved so badly that the top of the seat was pushed into the roof and the roof had buckeled badly. If there had been a passenger in the front seat I'm not sure if they would have survived, with or without a seatbelt.

This was an offset head on where the Grand Am had crossed all the way over and into the snowbank on my wifes side of the road and bounced off it before hitting her passenger side to passenger side.

Sorry this is off topic and so long...
