Lance has models with your "specs". I have a Lance Lite on a non dually and it does fine. They make some bigger units with slide outs and dry baths.

thanks... . just looked at the floorplan of 1055... and it is exactly what I am looking for... ... what did you do to your truck if anything (suspension wise)... I see alot of campers out on srw trucks and they seem to do well... . even though I own a dually i still remember my grandpas 69 C-30 "lwb camper special" wonderin all over the place!!! i think it had a six pack??? or something like that, cab over... very scary in crosswinds... how is your truck in situations like that??... .

thanks

My dually works great for my camper

I had a SRW 2 wheel drive '92 250 under my Lance 1030, it was 'sufficient', but there were times it was a little too close to the edge. That prompted my purchase of my TD dually. Now I can drive with confidence that all will stay under my control, whether in a severe thunderstorm crosswind next to an 18 wheeler, or coming down Kicking Horse Pass in the Canadian rockies, or crossing the Machinaw bridge with a truckers wind warning posted.

My wife wanted the dry bath Lance as well, but in the used camper market, you get what is available. She now agrees, it is not that big a difference.

I had to forgo the 4 wheel drive, and she had to forgo the drybath (teamwork).

On the road any RV is too big, but in the campground, any RV is too small.

I bought an S&S in the fall of 1996 and it has well over a hundred thousand miles on it with no problems... . NONE.

I haul it on a 2500 with Rancho shocks as the only addition. Truck and all it weighs 9700 loaded. (this statement will bring out all the sky is falling chicken little people)

Been to almost every state including Alaska. Paid for its self in 6 years by excluding motel bills and eating out.

If I buy another one it will be an S&S

Sounds like you described our Bigfoot perfectly

1. Large tanks 56gal freshwater

2. no slide (have heard about problems with slides from all makes)

3. dry bath

The bigfoot is lightter than most large slide in campers, and better insulated than most campers. The camper stays warm even when snow camping. We have been very happy with ours.

The other camper that we liked and almost bought was the Alpenlite. Well made with a dry bath, but about 1,000lbs heavier. We were not as impressed with the Lance models. The fit and finish as well as the cabinets were not as nice.

Here is the website.

Even with the dually we added airbags, and I will be adding a sway bar and Rancho shocks. Others here have had good luck with overloads rather than airbags. Try a search and you will be reading all night.

Good luck,

Greg

CKimball,

It sure does sound like you described a Bigfoot as GFritsch said.

Ours is the wet bath version - we like the extra space saved over the dry bath. To each his own...

Check out this link to see what mods we did to the truck and camper.

Cheers, Dave

Truck was ordered with camper package which inlcuded the overload leaf pack. I only installed Rancho 9000's so I could adjust to the wieght load when camper is on or off.

When I was ordering my Lance camper in 98, I too wanted a dry shower, but the dry shower took up more room in the bath, which made the dinette smaller. So I asked myself this important question. Where are you going to spend more time, in the shower or the dinette. I oped for the larger dinette.

I priced Lance camper from all Lance dealers in my surrounding states and then some and went with the lowest price. I ordered my Lance for 25% below MSRP. There is a lot of mark up on these unites, so shop around.

1999 Lance 1030 w/dry bath. Bought used for $10,500. Still had plastic over carpeted areas. Clean as a new one.

Bought from Adventure RV in Sevierville, TN. I saw it online. Called the sales person on the phone. Bought it sight unseen before the person that had called earlier could get out and see it. Absolutley one of the best deals I ever made. They are good people to deal with. 2nd Lance I bought from them and they have both been everything they said they were.

I have had great luck with my Bigfoot 2500, I have a stock '97 dually. Only thing I have added truck-wise is a set of Ranchos, like the others more for adjustability than anything.

Your truck should handle the camper like a breeze. My stock truck has way less power than the 3rd Gens, but it still handles the camper extremely well - I have been all over the place with it and never had a problem power-wise. Brakes and suspension are very good, no problems handling the camper at all. Last time I weighed the rig we were at 10,400 pounds with partially filled tanks.

Whichever you buy, throw it on the truck and have fun every chance you get - you won't regret the purchase unless it spends too much time sitting in the driveway :D

By the way, if you buy a used camper measure it first - I have heard that some of the older campers were wide enough to present a problem for the tapered 3rd gen beds, may be hogwash for all I know but it could save you some time, effort, and $$$

Not hogwash, had to sell a previous slide in camper 'twice' as it would not fit in the first buyer's pickup bed when he came to take it away.

I'm carrying a Lance 1191 which probably weighs 5000+lbs on my 3500 DRW. I weighed it with everything wet, the wife, the dog, tools etc etc and came to 12,200lbs. My GVWR is 11000lbs. I've added Firestone air bags and Rancho 9000X shocks. The first time we went with the rig was in the Mojave desert with a real strong cross wind. The truck remained stable and drove just fine, so I was impressed. I figured it would be a white knuckle experience for sure but it didn't lean over or cause distress.

I'm in the same "boat". You might want to search: (truck camper) under discussion forums.

There are many differing thoughts on this hot topic, some feel it is legal, some structural and a few others that are pretty far out there. Recommended, no- but will I do it? Yes, I do want to get back to a TC and sell our trailer, for better maneuverability.

But I will research the topic myself- RV.net, etc.....

Good luck,

John

I wanted a new slide in camper a bit pricey I though

So I started looking for a use one with no luck finding one that was not smoked in. Then one day I found a 1995 Dodge diesel class C motor home like new and not smoked in,garage kept since new and look new. Very low miles 30,000. I bought It and boy am I happy with It. I also have a 2006 dodge diesel 3/4 ton that I have a old slide in camper. I will keep this rig for a long time. Its my baby my wife says. Also she likes to drive it which makes me happy.
