I used to have a 16K Reese slider in my 02 CTD short bed and I always just set the P-brake and got out and flipped the lever for the slide and then got back into the truck and engaged the trailer brakes with the brake controller and pulled the truck forward or backward depending on which way you needed it to slide. I never put down the legs because then you have a chance of bending them and then you are stuck with legs that you cannot retract. Always be sure you do this on fairly level ground. I now have the Pull rite Superglide which slides automatically. You should be able to go to the Reese web site and download a manual or instructions.
