Definetly get gauges before modding anything with fuel. Yes it will increase EGTs.

If you have the plate accessible, I recommend taking it out and slowly grinding a half moon shape in it, taking off the factory nub thats on there, and making the half moon lower than the thinnest edge on the bottom of the plate (the side away from the mount). Grind slow, and cool the plate often so you dont lose temper in the material. You will want to get that clutch farther up on your list if you are boosting fuel.

I see the BHAF is on your list. I would highly recommend doing that first. It will help keep your EGTs a bit cooler and let your turbo spool faster on the low end. Check out a prefilter at outerwears.com and a turbo heat shield at fostertruck.com

good luck

no, it won't increase egt's, it won't really do anything. Cut a pie shape out of the center like a 10 plate and put it in the middle and it will be perfect.

I disagree with these statements. I have founnd it to increase both HP and EGT's. Some trucks/pumps respond better than others but all could achive some gain.

Ya it will. Went from dyno sheets in the 190's to 237-246 with just the stock plate slid forward and timing at 15. 5.

not more than 100 degrees egt. Which will put you WAAY below 1250 still, and the time it takes to get in there and move the stock plate for what you get is worthless. Try it. Do it right and grind the plate or buy one, preferably a #10 plate.

I've moved my plate forward and noticed a big difference. Could you explain in a little more detail on how to gring the plate, i'm not wanting a zero plate i'm wanting it more like a #10 or #11. thanks

A #10 plate has a half-moon shape to it, I recommend it, its what I have in my truck.

To get this profile, hold the plate as it is mounted in the truck with the ears horizontal and the vertical section of the plate, well, vertical. The bottom-most edge is the beginning of the fueling curve, at low RPM. You should not cut off this edge, it may cause governer lever problems. Start grinding about 1/8" past the edge, and grind the stock nubs completely flat with the beginning 1/8" of material. Grind VERY slow, and cool the plate often as not to lose temper of the material. When the stock nubs are gone, and you are even with the original 1/8" , grind a lazy half moon with the bottom of the curve deeper than the top. The grind would start a little past 1/8" and the deep portion should be no more than 1/8" to 3/16" deep, and should taper back to the original flat portion at the top of the fuel curve. You should taper the deep portion at 3/16" to 1/4" length. Less taper at the top end means higher EGTs with a stock turbo setup.

I did this to mine, but forgot to take pics, and its a little late now heh. Ohya, make sure you scribe a line into the pump to mark the original plate setting. When you're done grinding, set the plate at the same setting so your gov lever is happy.

If you dont have EGT and boost gauges, get them before doing any fuel mods.

good luck

Ohya, Welcome to the TDR Andy!!

Thanks a bunch. After i do this should i put the plate back in the stock middle position because right now i have it forward. I've also herd mixed things about the AFC should it be all the way forward middle back right know i have it and my plate forward. And i get an okay amount of smoke off the bottom almost lugging but not much any were else. I was told with it forward and the star loosened up on the spring it should smoke like crazy.

I could hit 1350 degrees very easily with my stock plate slide forward. It would be foolish to slide it much without guages.

The 95 pump is no where close to a 98 pump,He won't have your results. :)

still wondering about the afc. My plate is slid forward. wondering forward back or middle on afc. Like i said still not as much smoke as i'd think for plate and afc forward with star adjustment forward also. thanks

Mine doesn't smoke like it should either. Some people can get more fuel than others with the stock plate and AFC housing forward. I think my AFC hangs up a little bit off the line.

On your pump sliding the stock plate and AFC is good for 40+ HP.

If your AFC is not operating properly, as you suspect, you are limiting your fueling.

I slide the stock plate forward in mine. I agree that it is worth about 40hp and roughly just under 1100 degrees pre turbo.

YOU NEED GAUGES. If something is wrong, you will have no way of knowing. BE safe with your investment and put in the gauges. Once you get th extra power, you won't want to stop and then the gauges will really come into play.
