Mounting the Edge Attitude

I've got an Edge Attitude box, and one of my screens in the monitor shows Slippage. I've noticed that while towing, in 6th gear around 1900 RPM (65 mph), that I am getting about 4-5% slippage, even at part throttle without a lot of load. The slippage goes away when you downshift to 5th, but then the rpms climb to about 2400-2500 which is too much (again, I'm not pushing hard up hills-just trying to maintain 65 at a comfortable rpm).

I know the diaphragm design of these clutches adds clamping power at higher rpms, but was just curious if others have seen the same issue.

Am I slowly smoking the clutch?

Anyone with the dual Haisley (sp?) set up?

I dont own a Haisley clutch but i do live just a few miles from them... . seeing them built, i know they build a quality unit. they are great people to work with!

The diaphram design will not add additional load with rpm... . Only a center force (brand) cover will do that... .

I don't beleive your slipping your clutch... . part throttle at 65 even when your towing..... unless your talking a 6% grade a full throttle... .

Watch your tach..... that kind of error should be seen with higher rpm's when the slipping occurs... .

Just my 2 cents here... .

I thought the fingers on the diaphragm unit pulled outward with higher RPM. s. . Which is why those units sometimes don't engage after full throttle shifts (the pedal stays to the floor when you over center the fingers. At least that is what Zoom says on their web site. )

I'm only part throttle, and not going up any big grade, just the typical rolling hills on the west coast.

So its okay per say to tow without lugging in 6th?

I tow all the time,( usually 18-20K#) in 6th at 70- 80 MPH from Oklahoma to Nevada. Haven't slipped the stocker yet, EZ on level 4 all the time!

The comment from jelag about watching your tach was very good. If you really have 5% slippage (about 100 RPM) at 2000 RPM, a clutch problem is probable.

My attitude reads the same way and I really don't believe that there is any slippage at those speeds. What level are you on when it appears to show slippage, because that may be a factor. I can slip my clutch when i'm on level 4 and 5 more of 5 of course. But that is under hard acceleration and it only for a few seconds for now. When I had my 02 my clutch didn't slip until I had a torque dog chip and BD 120 injectors. So that tells me that our trucks are making alot of power with just the juice. Corey

If you want to verify the "slippage" screen, step lightly on the clutch until the RPM goes up a bit, and see if the slippage rate goes up. Don't want to hold it there for too long, but you could confirm actual slippage is occuring.

Sounds like a calibration problem with the Attitude. If a clutch was steadily slipping at 5% it would heat up fast and slippage would increase quickly and engine RPM would take off.

Once you get to the point a clutch is slipping, if you keep your foot on it the engine's gonna wind up quick. You'll know you got a problem.

When mine went, your could clearly hear the engine speed up when it was slipping. The tack would jump up and pull back down when I let off. If it is smoked go South Bend... . period!

I have the Haisley Street Puller DD. No slipping here! The clutch is awesome, just as smooth as stock on engagement and shifting. It is noisier in neutral, but thats a small price to pay. If you need a DD, the folks at Haisley are aweome to deal with!

Diaphram coves that have additional weights installed in the cover... . (center force, zoom) will apply more force as the rpm goes up... these weights can come loose... and when they do clutch cover failure is the result... .

No OEM's that I'm aware of use this in a street application... . there isn't a need for it with the current designs... .

The "N" on my attitude goes away as soon as I hit 3rd gear. I can get at least some slippage from there on up according to the attitude. Anytime I accelerate at even a measly 12-15psi boost, on the flat it says I'm slipping. Normal slippage is under 3% in gears 4-6. I can get these same numbers whether I'm loaded at 37K GCVW or running empty w/o trailer.

The slippage will increase some when I go to level 3 (no trlr only), but won't really go above 4%. I tried the "performance tests" once and then it recorded 6% as a max value.

Summary: My attitude says my clutch is slipping almost all the time. If it really was, I gotta believe it would be gone by now. It'll even show slippage on level 0 (stock), the same 2-3%. Maybe my clutch is S-L-O-O-O-W-L-Y going bye-bye, but I have a hard time believeing it would take this long considering I load it heavy almost every day. I can't really check it with the tach 'cause it's constantly changing. I'd need a camera to take a photo of the Attitude, tach and speedo all at the same time to see if it's actually slipping, and that's just way too much effort required.

That's exactly what mine does too. Glad to see that I'm not the only one that sees those numbers. Even with no load, I get the same slippage numbers too. Guess I'll call Aaron at Edge and run it past him.

Thanks for the info.
