The original smart controller was designed to be activated with the exhaust brake. It was normally in the off position when you wernt using the exhaust brake.
One day a customer from Texas called and gave us a suggestion that did not occur to us as we did not drive that way. I automatically turn the od off when below 50 mph.
He had never driven that way and didnt want to re-train himself to try and drive that way. He did not want to have to turn the od on and off himself. I thought to myself, if one guy drives this way there has to be others that may thinking the same as him.
We now use 2 toggle switches, 1 for the exhaust brake and one for the controller. The smart controller now allows you to control when you want od to come on and off. Basically speaking if you did not want od to come in before 55 mph you would simply set the controller to 55.
It will automatically dis-engage od below 55 mph.
Above 55 mph it will let the pcm take over the controlls.
Now that i have driven it for the last few months like that i cant believe i didnt think of it.
Everyone that i run into with these Dodge rams have different driving habbits, different likes and dis-likes. The smart controller has the adjustability to accomodate them.
Its really wierd because now we seem to be selling smart controllers without exhaust brakes as guys want some engine braking but not an exhaust brake.
