So i read some info on this new beta software for the smarty and have a few questions about it.

-How are the fuel milage gains verses the regulare mild tm software?

-Does it have different torque managment levels or just one?

-Does it work with the SO4 smartys?

-

My experience was that the torque is brutal. I had occasional clutch slippage even on SW1, and there is only 20,000 miles on the truck. Heavy smoke on the lower range of the RPM range unless you feather the pedal. On SW1 I got 12. 34 handcalc MPG from Reno, NV to Chemault, OR, on way to Reno, got in the low 10's, never had to shift out of sixth gear for hills, EGT never went over 1450. Total weight was 21,900 Lbs. SW3 EGT would go over 1450, mileage was 10. 34 MPG. Neither SW appeared to have boost fooling.

I downloaded 4. 06 aftermarket turbo today and ran SW1, just one very little puff of smoke, pulled hard up to 3400 rpm. I may try the SW3 tomorrow.

Here is my experience with the beta 4. 4.

Remember, this is BETA software, so it will have some quirks. I volunteered to test and give some feedback. The beta testing is done to provide a usable released version.

- Mileage is not much different than the released smarty version. Maybe +0. 5mpg, if I want to believe.

- 9 "catchers" all are at a very agressive torque management. I am still using SW#1. Tried it on 3 and it was way too agressive (Quite fun though). #1 is still very wild. Never tried anything above 3, no reason to.

- EGT when towing at 8000ft, with 4000lb trailer and 7% grade will easily exceed 1500 in only 2 or 3 seconds of wide open throttle. (SW #1) Not exactly "towing" material there. The current released software will do the same on SW#3 in about 5 seconds, which isn't much better.

- Not quite as smokey as the released version, but still can fill an intersection if I foget to accelerate gradually (6000ft).

- The turbo spikes as high as 40psi but quickly settles to 30psi. I think this is the "towing" part. It should be safe for my stock turbo.

- I have it in my '07 which I think is the S07 smarty, even though my smarty says "S04" on the back.

- Cruise control is bareley functional. Surges quite a bit.

Bob Wagner and the mysterious Marco are promising something very good "soon". I am patiently waiting. The Smarty seems to be the best "downloader" out there.

Went to the coast and back, about 270 miles. I found the torque to be no problem. I really liked it, got 12. 1 MPG on SW 1, and usually get from 9. 5 to 10. 5 on other downloads.

Smoke is manageable, and I don't notice it unless I push it. Pretty much like most of the programs on SW 1.

I slipped the clutch once, between 2nd & 3d, but I think my foot was still on the clutch a little bit. Once I took my damn foot off the clutch it grabbed.

I have about 23,000 miles and weigh in around 17,000 lbs. :D

The new software release's will be published asap and I did release this beta software to a wide range of customer's to see the different reactions to this software.

This is a modified race program that will be released in all different tq's once the update is done.

We are on the right path with this release.

The 03/04 guys should really be impressed

I used this SW for about 210 miles towing and thought it worked very well. I got 10. 9MPG over 294 miles.

The one catch is I was also testing out my new turbo and my new TT so it wasn't a fair test. I thought my egt's were a bit high so I went back to some older SW for the trip home. My egt's weren't any better with the old SW so I will try the Beta again unless there is something better coming out.

I will be taking my TT out again in a week or so.

Bob Wagner, If you and Marco get something else released for towing why don't you send it to me. If not I will try the 4. 4 again.

Hey bob if you load the beta 4. 4 software can you go back to the standard smarty software? Also do you have a beta 4. 4 mild torque management program availble. ? If so i would like to try it out.

all beta versions are not taken off the block. I finally received some dyno numbers back for a couple of customers and the hp levels are too high.

Please go back to stock softwares if you are towing with the beta softwares.

Thanks

Sorry Bob, you can't have it back. What kind of HP you talking about? Anything for SW 1, or are these numbers from those guys that put it on 9 for a "test"?

:D:D

Well, maybe it's a tad too much then. Withdrawals will be very painful though. :{

When do you think the final will be out?

That's weird. I've noticed more low-end power with 4. 4, but nothing drastic. I'm running level 5 and would compare it to approx. moderate on level 7. Oh, and Bob my transmission loves the new program. Night and day difference, 100% better. Smokes much less, smoother idle, smoother acceleration, quieter, and shifts great. Whatever was done for the shifting, please don’t change it.

I guess that explains why my torque converter wants to fly out of the truck even on level 1. Okay back to stock for me til you get this worked out.

no 2 seperate trucks software 1

2006 stock 301. 66 software 1 455. 56

2003 stock 197 software 1 369

wow thats impresive. i havent tried anything lower than sw5 but i can tell a difference in the power between 5-7-9. obviously 9 feeling the best. i wish i could have dynoed it for yoy bob. maybe next time.

Hey Bob, don't you dyno the beta stuff before you start beta testing? I mean level 1 is supposed to be 30 hp on the smarty software right?

Maybe I don't understand beta testing, but I would think there would be a reasonable expectation you were testing a software with similar hp settings, not unknowingly throwing an extra 120 hp through your drivetrain.
