my next truck i buy, i would like them to knock $5k off the purchase price. they can then outright void my engine warranty off the start. this will leave no hard feelings as i will know exactly what im walking into... .

I'll second that. It would be nice if the warranty was an option that you order.

since there is zero continuity between dealers on what they will cover and what voids the engine warrany, i believe this is the fairest way to go :)

You said it my TDR brother !!

Can someone tell me how many different trucks a single Smarty can be used on? I understand that once its downloaded on a particular truck you cannot take that to another; however, once its taken back to stock and all performance programs are returned to the smarty, then can it be taken to another???

Thanks

I appreciate the infoBob..... let me ask this a little differently. I have 2 trucks (in sig) I want to use the smarty as a code reader/deleter on both. Id like to leave it on one truck at all times, but still be able to play with it on the other. Will this work? If not, how do I make this happen, aside from buying 2 Smartys?

thanks

Yes. Performance software on only one truck at a time. Code read and clear on any 03/05 trucks

What about ABS for tire sizes and speedo calibration? I have a few buddies with some 35's, 37's, and 39's. I havent tried it but I just thought it wouldnt work.

abs vin locks too.

Well I do have a question then about the ABS tire size change. I have had my ABS Revs Per Mile changed by the service manager for my 315s. None of the downloaders has effected this setting when returned to stock.

If I switch tires and change the ABS tire size with the Smarty and return it to stock, then what happens to the setting I entered with the Smarty????

And I volunteer for alpha/beta or any other letter for SMARTY testing :D .

I have not read any of the posts in this thread as I'am going through searchs but I thought I should give some information I found out at the dealership yesterday.

I have a friends son that is like a son to me also that is a diesel mechanic at a Dodge dealership. He was showing me stuff on their starscan that DC uses to void warranties.

Now without going into long details.
It don't matter if a downloader or box is undetectable. There are other tell/tail signs DC can use to make a case that you had something on your vehicle. They may not be able to tell you who's box or programmer it was but they can definatly make life very miserable for you if they choose to. The data they can pull from your vehicle may not be absolute proof but enough to make your warranty claims go away unless your name is Donald Trump. In which case he wouldn't care anyhow he would just buy the company and fire everyone.

This next statement is my opinion, Aftermarket power enhancers, be it power tuners, downloaders, boxes, modules, or whatever you want to call them us terminalogy in their wording to keep them out of trouble such as: "Is undetectable". Yah their product might be undetectable in the term of can not be proven "their power enhancement" was used but DC can still use the data they have to void your warranty from using such power enhancement.

Like I said, I did not read any posts in this thread so this might already have been brought up.

Good luck in your indentures.

My friend has a 2005 Ford Superduty with the 6. 0 PSD, he put the Edge Juice with attitude in the truck after about 1000 miles. He started having all kinds of major engine problems when the truck had 20k on it, sever overheating when towing, turbo problems to name a few. When he went in for warranty service they couldn't get it to overheat since it would only do it while towing his toy hauler. After repeated trips to the dealer and him taking pictures of his dash while towing his toy hauler on a trip where it was in the red and warning lights were flashing, they said they would have a Ford factory tech ride with him while he towed, he always took out the Edge stuff when he took it in for warranty. So he hitched up his toy hauler and picked up the Ford guy. The Ford guy hooks up some oversized laptop computer to the truck and they go for a ride, the truck starts its redlining and burning coolant like it always does, even though the Edge has been off the truck for a while.

So they say it's a gasket or something, but on his next trip it overheats real bad and he just let it go, the coolant has oil in it and the reservoir blows the lid an splatters coolant/oil all over the engine bay, now the truck barely runs, Ford agrees that his engine is toast, so they warranty replace the entire engine, the bill was over 15 grand and it was in the dealer for a month. They never tried to deny warranty service due to engine mods, he had turbo back exhaust, air intake, pyro, the normal stuff. So they were deep in the computer and never found that he had a Edge Juice. The truck is now on it's second engine and is at about 38K, just out of warranty, except the engine has 100K warranty, he goes to get some coffee in the morning and suddenly the transmission springs a huge leak, it is dumping transmission fluid out of a hole on the side of the transmission, a hole just appeared out of nowhere, i couldn't beleive it either, so back to the dealer it goes, where he is told the the transmission is only covered for the 36K warranty not the 100K powertrain warranty, they tell him they will replace the transmission for 5 grand. Moral of the story, the power adders are not that easily detectable and don't buy a Ford unless you like driving rental cars.

If you want to keep the "warranty" leave it STOCK. If DC wants to void your warranty im sure they will ALLWAYS find something. No oil change records, wrong air filter, wrong tires, who knows what they can come up with.
