Here is something I would like some of you guys to try. For whatever reason, the other day I was bored, so I checked the instrument cluster codes. You can do this by holding down the trip reset while turning the key to the run position.

I had 2, A7 which is checksum error = same description as the 602 code in the manual, and AA, PCM messages not recieved. Resetting codes with the Smarty does not get rid of these codes, and I don't know of anything else on my truck that would have set them.

Why aren't you using the Smarty / TST Combo, a lot of people here swear by that combo... .

It will happen, I am trying to get a baseline for what the Smarty with pressure (and without) does. I was hopefull that the Smarty would let me get away from the TST timeing, as TST throws that 0036 code on a semi-regular basis. Given how quick Smarty gets hot (on aftermarket injector timeing) I can't see how any more duration would do me much good, but I will try. Also, the timeing from TST seems to be somewhere between Smarty w/aftermarket injector programming and Smarty w/stock injector programming.

As it stands with Smarty on level one, aftermarket inj. , stock tq. managment and VA on low power I can hit 1350deg with about 45lb boost, real quick. TST on 1/1 and VA on same rarely touches 1200deg and 40lb boost, and feels stronger though not as smooth. Now perception is everything so perhaps the Smarty is makeing more power but I don't think so. Interestingly Smarty with stock injector timeing is hard to get egt of 1100deg(VA on low) even on level 3. Like I said coolant temps run higher on that setting and the rattle is a little unsettling. My other gripe, most love it, is that smoke is excessive on all Smarty settings, even timeing only. I know most guys love the smoke, but I like to run incognito. I am an area bussinessman and fogging every intersection can't be too good for bussiness.

I'm not knocking Smarty I just haven't found my sweet spot.

I just loaded the latest software, (aftermarket turbo, stock injectors) moderate tq / sw#6. This is as close to the original as far as shear power that I have tried. The driveability is very decent, throttle not touchy at all, shifts great, I like it  . I have not tried any other sw's, but I believe it is getting very close to perfect(imo).

I did notice that my overhead mileage indicator was reading very low, around 8 mpg? I know they are not accurate, but I hope it's not even close.

Keep up the good work Marco/Bob!

Marco/Bob, I am continuing to get and clear the p0602 error and notice that right after clearing the code my truck spools way faster with less lag until the code sets again which is pretty soon after I mash the throttle. My truck also smokes less right after clearing the p0602. Are you working on a fix for this?

Thanks, Bill Sayre

I installed my Smarty near the end of Nov. I have had it on #4 since day one. Should I update with a later version or just leave it alone? I have no complaints with what I have now, but if there is a better version available, maybe I should take advantage of it.

I have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for all of the updates to get worked out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bob or Marco:

I'm still waiting for an answer.

No Bob or Marco for fix on p0602 checksum error. I cleared it then drove it then it come's back. Power differents with error and w/o :{

The p0602 has been around since the first smarty, I believe it's guaranteed to be set. I just reset mine tonight to see if there's a perf diff before / after reset... . I cant tell the difference?? Will test some more.

To test this you have to be in a spot where you can mash the throttle right away after clearing the code. If you drive much at all after clearing the code it resets before you can mash the throttle. My symptoms are more turbo lag from a stop and more smoke with the po602 error set. After clearing and mash the throttle smoking tires and instant go with less to little smoke other than rubber.

That's what I came up with p0602 code

I too have seen that code, I haven't played enough to see if it is affecting performance, but it does show up.

On another note I would really like a fix for the "hanging throttle" syndrome. My truck only does it on the 3-4shift maybe once per 200mi, and I have figured out that a good blip of the trottle makes it stop, but still that is pretty bothersome. Just to see, I have let it go on a "hung throttle" and it takes 12-15 seconds before it "lets go". I don't know if my DTT transmission and smart controller are an issue or not but it will do it with/whithout TST and/or VA 3. 1 hooked up. In the wrong situation it could prove dangerous. Funny thing is it does it a little less when I make the truck shift at a higher speed (via smart box), it hasn't done it on full throttle shifts either, thank god.

I also had the throttle hanging up at 1500 rpm's, had to put it in neutral before it would go back down to an idle. I reloaded the software into the Smarty, then reloaded it into my truck and it's been fine ever since. You might try that.

Po602 Checksum Error

Bob Wangner and Marco,

I too get the po602 checksum error code. I did not get this with the 307 software, it's new with the 309 software. Have you guys looked into fixing this software issue or have any information on what is causing it? Do you know when it might be fixed?

I looked at the code in the factory service manual and it says it's caused by a deviation between ecm memory and stored calibration. To fix it, it says reflash the ecm and if that don't fix it, replace the ecm. So i am assuming the fix would be a new smarty program hopfully. I have not returned to stock to see if you get the code though.

I return to stock it does not set a code p0602. Only when you downlaod the smarty it set's. I don't care about the code as long as the dealer does not detect it?!

((Is it or is it not detectable after you go back to stock)) Are We Safe

P0602 code goes away when you reload the stock software.

Hey, you guys the P0602 code sets because the ECM doesn't recognize the Smarty software. It goes away when you set back to the stock setting. Y'all just need to get used to it.

Does anyone know if the latest aftermarket turbo and aftermarket injectors program have the top end horse power of the older programs?

Thanks Jason

Jason, I asked Marco and he said the wild program does.

Bob

Well, if thats the case, then I guess I will stick to my Super OLD 306_502 program because I really do not care for the smoke down low. I was hoping to upgrade to a Stock torque management program for the aftermarket turbo and aftermarket injectors that would give the top end horse power of my current 306_502 program or the 306D_102 but with the 48RE shift improvements. I just don't understand how these newer programs don't have the top end horse power like the older ones. EFI LIVE for cummins ??
