I am still running the original program my Smarty came with when I purchased it in Oct/Nov of 06. I generally run the 60 hp with timing(#3 I think). For those of you with experience in updating your program, is this something I need to do?



The Smarty has worked flawlessly, but I don't want to miss out on improved performance that updates might offer.

I will still say keep it. :) I know some that wish they had a time machine :{ :-laf
 
Jess the 309 would be the S04 version ans the 409 is the S06 version.



The 03/05. 5 smarty is S04 and can't load S06 softwares.

Bob, I understand that. What I am asking is, I downloaded software "309D 205B" into my Smarty, then when I connect to my truck, it identifies itself as "309B 205B" ?

No Bob, I thought that was not nessessary? I am very happy with the program I have now, not sure I will ever change it again. Unless... there are gains to be Had! Jess
 
Well, the new update did change the timing somewhat. I noticed my truck is quieter and my egt’s are a tad higher. We’ll see if it does anything to my mileage. The power on #3 seems about the same. I’m running Smt3V310B206A. 7z. The upload to my truck was different than in the past. At the end, after it said 100% programmed, it told be to cycle my ignition on/off twice. I have never had to do that in the past. But, all is well, and my truck runs fine.

Uh, Marco, Bob, can I have some of my timing back. My engine is much quieter and there is not a hint of timing rattle, BUT - my egt's are through the roof. Much higher than with the last update? Help?

Sounds very similar to what I have seen several people experience with the aftermarket injector software (less timing in it)...



Trucks run smooth, very quiet, but WAY too hot!!!



Most of them have gone back to the normal (non-aftermarket injector) softwares and just deal with the small amount of timing rattle.



So far I know of two people who are experiencing the same as you - trucks run great on the new update as far as quiet, smooth, but pretty hot compared to the prior release(s) of the software.

is there a problem with the new updates?? im running sw #5 on stock stock program and i dont think its getting enough fuel... . the turbo is putting out air but no fuel i dont even see any haze of soot coming out from the tail pipe driving at night... i think its running reaaaaally lean. . kinda scary. . big difference from the last program before the update. .
 
You know, now that you mentioned it. I've noticed no matter how hard I accelerate all the smoke is gone. I never had a lot of smoke to begin with, but I would get some when I went WOT. There is none now. Odd?

No, it's not the fuel. I've only ran ULSD since I've had the smarty. ULSD is all I've had in Northern California for quite some time. The timing is different.

No worries a diesel can not run too lean... ... ... ... . tottally different from a gasser.

i have a Smarty on my 2004 truck now. i am trading it in on the new 6. 7 auto truck. should i sell the Smarty or keep it in case you guys get software for the 6. 7?
