I'm new to TDR and I was just wandering if I could still use the Smarty on my stock truck. I have a 2005 Ram QC 2500 with the Cummins Turbo Diesel. I don't haul a trailer or anything so I was just curious if I could still run the smarty on my truck. I would just like some added horsepower and some better fuel mileage out of my truck. I've heard Smarty also enables the high idle feature on the trucks. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

It is designed for a stock truck..... it will work great! I don't want to drive my 99 without it..... after you try it... . you'll agree.

You can use a smarty on a stock truck if you use common sense, but you should have a few extras to ensure you keep the EGT's in check... . (same goes for all power adders)

Gauges are required for any power mod (at least an EGT Gauge): $150-200 for diprocol optix egt guage and pilliar mount

Intake: Drop in airfilter ($100+), others use full air induction systems ($250+), I use the Trueflow drop in and am happy with it.

Exhaust: Get an MBRP Muffler (lots of recommendations, $150) or similiar. I did the Borla cat back and love it, but it's pricy and the MBRP will reduce the back pressue a similiar amount.

Stock auto = Level 1 or Level 3 (per Smarty Documentation), others use higher levels, but you're on borrowed time with your transmission. Level 1 or 3 make it feel like a new truck, and are well worth it. Higher levels (7-9) require more expense extra's like a turbo / fuel pump / transmission / ... .

I'm sure others will chime in, opinions very, the above are mine, do a search on smarty there'll be tons of info... good luck and welcome to TDR!

Gauges are a must when using any power tuner... . I'd definately get a egt gauge.

Also, there are different programs with 3 different levels of Torque Management. If you are a running a completely stock truck and you want to play it a little safer, update your Smarty with the Stock Torque Management Program so it will be easier on the drivetrain. Great thing about Smarty is that it will grow with your mods...

I am still wondering how long I am going to be able to go without one

According to a couple websites and some other threads I have read, they are now available for the 2007 models. I haven't found anything on any of the websites that say if it will work only with 5. 9L or both the 5. 9L and 6. 7L though.

Yes I have heard 07 Smarty is shipping and i believe it's for the 5. 9L only.

I love my smarty on my 05. I run it on the moderate torque management on 60 horse. It has so much better throttle response and if you want to puff some soot you can, but very controllable, i actually wish it was uncontrollable. Their is actually 4 different torque management programs you could load in your truck, so their is one out their for everybodys likings. I would reccomend guages and taking off the muffler and putting in a straight pipe their. You just have to remember you have a stock transmission and don't be stupid with it. You'll love it!

Another Smarty lover here

I have had mine for 3 weeks and absolutely love it. Stock truck with egt/boost gauges. I have run nothing but levels 4 and 5. I am running the latest software with the mild TM. I have not had clutch slipping problems yet, but plan on upgrading to a South Bend in the future.

You definitely need to have the EGT gauge. I have not yet moved mine to the manifold, it is currently Post-Turbo in the cast elbow. On a hill I drive on the way to work every day if I accelarate hard up the hill I will see 1100* post turbo in 5th. That is where I let off, I believe that is hotter then I should let it get. Exhaust is also in my future, I plan on removing the Cat and getting a different muffler.

BUY A SMARTY, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. DID I MENTION THE SMOKE IS AWESOME.

Is the Smarty going to produce more power than a Bully Dog crazy larry program? Has anyone gone from the crazy larry to the Smarty? If so, what were the results? I like the thought of the mild torque mgt. I broke my output the first time I tried to launch it at the strip. Since then, the input and output have been replaced with billet (not the intermediate), though it still scares me. My 60' times are consistantly right at 2. 0 with a best ever of 1. 96 with tq mgt on. I would like to get in the high 12s. The current best is 13. 4 at 101. 6 with an 8,040 pound race weight. I'm very curious if the Smarty could help me reach my goal.

Red Ram is the Smarty as good as Bulley dog i have a 06 2500 stock worried about

worrenty problems i have no power at take off & pulling the smarty seems to be good for both also bulley dog will do the trick do you know whitch is better. i have been watching products trying to see what will work best for me with out a lit of other modifications for now what do you suggest.

i sold my BDDL with crazy larry and TM delete for the smarty. the bully dog cant even compare to the drivability and power of the smarty.

Would I be able to run on any level (1-3) safely without running guages. Has any one had one on level 3 and never noticed high egt.

I recommend gauges for every truck running added fueling.

The smarty does lower egt's but who likes flying blind :(

another good point the smarty runs about 200 degrees less than my BBDL did.
