yes it raises boost levels mine saw over 40 psi on the dyno. when normally without the smarty the highest ive seen was 38 and that was a spike from the bullydog, after that it would settle around 30 psi. with the smarty it stayed at 40 plus.

the turbo is another weak link. as long as you dont keep pushing past 35 psi i dont see you having any issuses with it. what are your intentions with your truck?

also there is more load on everything with it.

Thanks guys,

BigP, your explanation of how it works makes sense to me. I would assume then, that the Smarty has some sort of boost fooling software, 'cause I haven't heard of people setting off codes running just a Smarty. Maybe I'll have to ask Marco.

My intentions with my truck are to load it up to 19,000 lbs GCVW and head up the Brenda Mines Hill (6-8% grade for 5-10miles) and keep the truck at 70mph in 5th gear without worrying about excessive EGT's or grenaded turbos.

So if I read all this right, as long as I don't keep running over 35psi for more than a quick burst here and there I should be fine? Question now will be what PSI I see when fully loaded at the conditions mentioned previously.

Thanks again

Dave

One thing people should do is throw those boost elbows in the garbage and get a real boost controller. I've been running a ball/spring manual boost controller on my truck and I can set my boost wherever I want regardless of how much fuel I throw at it. No boost spikes, etc. I've been running my stock turbo at 40-45psi for quite some time and it's fine so far.

Adding fuel will increase your boost and if you have a fooler but don't have proper boost control you'll easily go over 50psi. I've noticed diesel guys tend to use fuel and foot restraint to control how much boost they run and that's about the worst way to do it.
