Smarty or TST--Concerns, Which one to get

I have read many threads on both the smarty and tst. I am debating to get a smarty or a tst, i am leaning toward the smarty though. I have an 05 cummins 325/610, automatic transmission, straight pipe, torque tube, guages.

Some concerns i have about smarty are it seems like, what i have read at least is, it sounds like it's not very driveable as a daily driver, even on the lower setting because it produces so much torque down low and right when you give her some throttle. Is this true? All i am really looking for is a slight power and MPG increase that is non detectable by the dealer and that won't launch my transmission, oh and also some smoke. I like the smarty because it is a reprogrammer and not an add on box, and is alot easier to remove if i take it in to the dealer, it's cheaper too. What MPG increase can i expect on the lower settings?

The TST seems like it is very adjustable and would be easier as a daily driver, Is this true? Is it detectable by the dealer if you remove everything? What MPG increase can i expect? I don't like tst because it's an add on box, i feel that these are somewhat unreliable long term.

Any input would be helpful.

All I know, is that I have been having all sorts of recent issues with my Bullydog - TST stack. After some testing, it looks like the TST is causing all the problems. But I have heard stories about Bullydog issues too. Right now, I am leaning to Smarty and injectors. I too, would like some updates on the smarty????

Most if not all of the TST issues have been ironed out in the last two years. I like the TST (if I had only one) due to the on the fly adjustability

As well keep in mind that the new TST powermaxCR is coming Sept 1st... It will have 0-9 for rail pressure and all 3 programs already loaded into the module. I know I'll be getting an extra one Oo.

Input. You should not be concerned with whether the dealer can detect it not unless you are trying to ripoff the rest of us honest owners off. I think you warranty scammers would be better off stealing ladders and chain saws at Home Depot and selling them like the junkies around here do to supply their habits. If you want to play then pay, be a man for once.

Now come on, this issue has been hashed many many times...

Some people need to remove the power stuff to even get a power window fixed. yes, some dealers have voided ENTIRE warranties due to a box. Is that right? Because I make more HP, that my radio warranty is void...

I think alot of people just want to not raise flags. I dont expect many TDR members to go to the dealer with a blown headgasket and expect warranty to cover it

i to am wandering which one to get.

If you say in september they are coming out with one with all those programmers together that sounds like a winner right there.

I always thought that the TST was the best. Haven't tried the smarty yet. I can't wait. I hope its as good as everyone says. But I was really disappointed in my TST/EZ stack when my buddy smoked me with only a BDDL/CL. I have TST/EZ, DDP injectors and an HT SP66 and all he's done is spend $500 and out runs me(both are 2005 4wd 3500 6speeds, and he can't even shift good). So my TST/EZ is out the door for now. I'm gonna try the Smarty and stack it with the new TST when it comes out and hopefully my truck will run decent then. I almost decided to get another BDDL/CL after driving his truck yesterday, but the customer service at bullydog sucks. They have too many problems and no one to fix them. Everytime I have called, I get some guy that sounds like he's never seen a diesel. But anyway. I'm without any electronics for now and let me tell you, with just the sticks and the SP66, my truck is SSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! I'm scared to run against a stocker right now.

I bought my TST in July. Have not been impressed yet. I dunno what I expected but since I bolted up my turbo and transmission and fuel system, all the truck has done is throw codes. Pulled off the TST and everything is great. I dunno what the deal is. I will try sending it back to TST and see if we can get things ironed out.

But I would really like to see some results of the Smarty, I really think injectors and smarty might be the way to go. But who knows once Sept. rolls around and TST comes out with the new product.

I would for sure call Danny at TST and let him know the codes... Do you have the TST ground ran into the cab and grounded to inside dash frame?

Thats helps alot...

Good luck, I know when I got my 1st TST and installed it on a bone stock truck it just blew my mind at how much more HP it felt like... For sure something wrong if you dont get that same rush

Yeah, I got it grounded under my dash. It was workin just fine when my truck was stock. So I went ahead, called Rep. Brown, got myself II Silverbullet, transmission, and some other goodies. Well the truck ran good for about a day with all the goodies, then started throwin crankshaft codes, followed by fuel codes, terrible power, and missing. Eventually she died on me. So called up Rep, we thought it might be cracked injector. But before we went there, I just pulled off the TST. Truck has ran just fine since. So I dunno what went wrong with that TST. Oil level has remained where it should be for that last 2000 miles.

How do you know Sept. 1st? What is the difference over the regular TST 49. Price?

how do you suppose we are ripping you off?. dont say vehicle price increases because take a look around, ALL vehicles go up every year from ALL manufacturers. its called inflation. you cant blame the increase cost in your new dodge truck on a few modified engines. MOST of the time the warranty work being done has nothing to do with the modifications & it would have broken with or without the additions.

are you trying to tell me that because i cut out my cat(to make my engine breathe better and get better mpg) that i should be denied a warranty claim on something totally unrelated ,say a failed injector???

I have said this before and ill say it again. Im buying a new truck and im going to bomb it. DC doesnt give me an option to purchase it at a lower price without warranty. THEREFORE i am going to try to get every penny back out of them if i can.

Mark (owner) said that was the expected release date. The difference is this new one will have all 3 programs in it... (twins, regular, 2003 twins)

I would call TST after Spet 1st and check price - I am not sure theyhave a firm price yet. He did say it is expected to go down though

back to the origonal question, i feel the smarty and tst work good but too much timing can bust up you motor very quick---i would stay away from stacking two timing boxes

I only plan on putting one programmer on, not stacking them since i'm stock, just looking for fuel milege and reliability.

I gotta tell ya fellas... I'm really not feeling stacks period right now. I know we have all seen good numbers, but I just keep reading about code issues left and right, and engine problems right and left. I dunno. As with everything, there is a right way and a wrong way, so ideally, if you do it the right way you should be fine... where as the wrong way you won't be. But if you for whatever reason get a bad flash on one of the box's or one of the box's poops out, problems will be knocking on your door. Or should I say paranoia, if ya know what I mean
