I have owned the Smarty SO6 for sometime now. It is wonderful, however I read here and there about stacking the TST with it. Even Smarty's Bob Wagner sells them as well as TST sells Smarty. Except for gauges and other convenient features, I see adjustable timing and rail pressure with the TST. But the Smarty already has timing, why might I want more or less using the TST and do I want static or automatic? I have heard that fuel pressure increase may be damaging. Perhaps the serious racers want the pressure and DO expect thing to break but can first get several competeing runs.

I have the Edge with Attitude, that is what I started out with before my warranty ended! Since I received the Smarty I have always run the Edge off and only use it for gauges! I've tried stacking with it but the Smarty at SW 9 and Wild TM is far better all the way through the tachometer.

So now I own the TST R-49, which gets installed as soon as I am finished this post, and have the Edge on eBay. How should I adjust the 2? My inclination is to run the Smarty as I have before but with no timing and add a bit of timing until rattle or?!? And try a bit more on the power or should ?.

I should mention that I tow RV's for a living. I have been running the Smarty on Mild TM and SW 3... Edge off. When I have to run empty I load Wild and SW 9 most of the time weather permitting! :D

Looking at my signature below you'll notice the upgrades.

And FYI... I have 357,000 miles on this '05 and with all this power, which I can't help from using, she now has 147,000 miles on Michelin tires! :) Still 5/32" left. About 60% of the miles are loaded 20-26K gross. The truck loaded with fuel and water/meth not towing is 9,820 lbs. on a Cat scale.

Check out my live web cam in the truck at Ham Radio Over The Road - W7LUS - Live Webcam with Free Chat about the middle of next week when I go back on the road for about 4-5 weeks.

Some of the Smarty programs seem to stop fueling at the top of the rpm band, I would run the Smarty on sw#9, let it do the timing, and just add Hp settings no timing with the TST. You really do not need any Tq settings from the TST, because the Smarty already fuels hard enough down low to drain the rail. Easy on the pressure, higher the presure, higher the egt's.

I have an older TST, without adjustable timing and other features, such as gauges. I can obtain too much timing quite easily, rattles like crazy.

Just play around with the different combos, each truck behaves a bit different. Have fun, Jess

just as jjpage said, watch it with timeing. . . I also have a R37 TST, smarty on any timeing program and the TST on just 1/0 sounds like someone dropping a 50 pound box of bolts in lowes. However the even number programs(those without timeing) and a little bump from the TST is a real eye opener.

basicaly find a smarty program you like, then use the TST to fine tune it, and give some pep to the top end.

I run my TST/EZ/Smarty stack two different ways.

First I have a TST R49 with everything but fuel pressure, that is why I have an EZ stacked.

One Option:

Smarty Even # SW (No Smarty Timing) TST Timing 12* Auto, HP/TQ 2/0-4/1 depending on street or track. I have EZ on Level 1 for street and Level 2 or 3 for track.

I can run Smarty Odd # SWs with timing if I set TST Timing 3* Auto, then same HP/TQ levels 2/0-4/1 and same EZ levels for pressure 1 for steet and 2-3 for track.

Both combos seems to preform about the same on mine. Have not had a chance to dyno with the lastest Smarty software to know if one way is better than another.

You can play the the above different setups and find what is best on yours, just remember to keep TST timing low if you load Smarty SW #s with timing.

I saw this article by Richard Martin (Glacier Diesel Fuel) great company, and he actually answers phone, anyway, he wrote a good article on stacking.

So far all of you guys have been helpful in many ways. The Glacier Diesel Power article was very interesting and helpful. I suggest anybody that are less than expert diesel mechanics read it. I knew fuel was a big issue I first experienced running out of fuel while passing on a 2 lane road!

I have installed the TST R-49 today, man what horror getting to the cam sensor. I have everything turned down to lowest or off for now and will play in the next few days with no towing load. I'll post here my findings.

Thanks to those above and hope more will post their 2 cents and experiences.

Yes the Cam Shaft Sensor connector is a beach!. The first time I installed it I was not paying attention and after I finally got the Cam Shaft Sensor connected I discovered I had connected the Crank Shaft Sensor. #@$%!. I have not made that mistake again.

Like I said earlier start with zero or little Rail Pressure, I have heard from more than one the TST Rail Pressure seems to be a little radical even on lower settings. My EZ is a very good pressure box for me. Brings Rail Pressure up faster off idle, but does not really add any Max pressure that I can tell from my gauge and two and a half years stacking it with many other mods.

I run Wild TM all the time so I have fairly responsive low end no matter what level Smarty SW I run. Currently I am running the latest released Wild TM for Aftermarket Turbo on SW # 5, EZ on Level 1, TST Timing set to 3* Auto, 05TT program and TST HP/TQ on 2/0 for daily driving.

This combo seems very good compromise for mileage and medium performance at the touch of the peddle. I average around 15. 8-16mpg daily driving work week and 18-18. 5mpg at 80mph on the highway, 19. 5-20mpg if I can keep it at 70mph.
