Who would steel a Dodge anyways?

Mine was stolen several years ago even with the fuel pump disabled, they limped it away and completely trashed it, cost me 6k out of my pocket after the paltry amount the insurance paid. I am interested in the run but kill with throttle program.

The starter/cranking is not controlled by the ECM. Nothing I can do about it.

For that you'll have to use some hidden switch... . ;)

Looks like no go / go 'n die is a fifty fifty... we'll see...

In the mean time I've had another thought.

If you have to leave your truck in an not so comfortable area for a few hours, you already have an anti theft with Smarty. Start an update and pull the plug before the update is finished. Voilà a very disabled ECM; no go. ( WTSL will keep on blinking.

Yet keep in mind. Doing so implies two things. The ECM remains powered on and would discharge the batteries in the long run. A few hours let's say 3-4 is a OK not more. Second without THAT Smarty the ECM would become useless. Don't leave Smarty in the truck, don't forget Smarty somewhere. No Smarty, no further go with the disabled ECM... :-{}

Here we go

Bob,

I recieved my Smarty yesterday and am heading out to install it now.

Thanks for the great service ( and the candy bar, which I definetely do not need LOL )

Will report back my initial observations

I travel for work and have to leave my truck parked at the airport for a week or so at a time, as well as driving to some locations for work that aren't that nice. I'd love to be able to disable the ecm or the like and lock the smarty up in the toolbox, would make for some better piece of mind trips.

Cummins made the Roadrelay for these truck of which I have one. I tried and tried to get the software to enable the anti-theft start, but Cummins while making it available for the big rigs did not do so with the Dodge. On the big rigs that have a Roadrelay, you can have the system set up with a password that will not alow the motor to run. It disables the VP signals and other functions. Within the ECM there is a particular circuit that Cummins called a Dongle that had to be turned on to enable the feature to be used. If Marco can find out which circuit that is, then he can add a password or pass number setup to the Smarty. It has been a couple of years since I explored this with Cummins. It was one of the big reasons I bought my Roadrelay. :)

The Road Relay was available for the 98. 5's to about 00 I believe. I emailed Cummins way back when to ask why it wasn't available anymore and they stated it was because Dodge took over most of the controls for the truck. I personally wanted the Road Relay before, because it sounded like it had some good programs to it. I like the idea of the Smarty having a feature built in to do this.

I have one on my 2001 and love it. I get so much data and it reminded me of when I need to do maintenance. Cummins is right also in that Dodge took over too much of the engine controls. I know that if you have a 6BT out of something other than the Dodge that instead of a 50 pin EMC you get the 100 pin EMC and you can set it up really nice with a Roadrelay.

Got smarty ???? --- A new bumper sticker perhaps ?

I got it a couple of days ago and WOW !!!! Oo.

What a difference on my otherwise stock truck

This is my first big bomb and I love it :D

I told a friend about it and he is coming over tomorrow for a quick download

His truck has several mods (Edge Comp, injectors, bigger turbo, reworked trans, and more) so it will be interesting to see first hand what the Smarty will do on his truck. Heck maybe he'll end up buying one and good 'ole Bob will give me a commission :)

send commission to same address? :-laf

Not to get off track but I spoke with Cummins a month or two ago (Late 2005) and they told me I could still get the roadrelay for my 24V. Call the 800 number and talk to customer service.

Wagner - I haven't forgotten, will call to chat smart stuff.

There have been several recent posts from members commenting on just receiving their new Smarty's - and Bob had mentioned an expected new shipment as of the first of this past week - apparently that shipment arrived as expected, and Smartys from that shipment are in transit to customers?

Good low end power

I removed my Edge EZ and installed Smarty #8 and took off for a short ride on the Performance Diesel Test track... Initial SOP impressions were, WOW! I can really feel the power come on in the low end. Instead of the dreaded turbo lag I was getting with the EZ this thing powers up quick!

I came back and installed #9, loaded up the truck with 2. 5 extra passengers and hit the test track again... . Not a great deal of difference from #8 to #9, it may just be the extra passenger weight, but I didn't see a dramatic difference between the two programs.

EGT's cruising at 80 were about 700° and I could get it to 31. 5 PSI of boost and 1300° pretty quick!

The next real test will be towing my fiver... I'll report back then.

Dave :D

inbound to the great white north

Mines on the way with some Mach 4's as well (sent out on Thurs of this past week),might be the first to have one :) in the country or province to try.

Got my Smarty last week and downloaded #9 into the ECM. I already had the catcher with the no timing program so there wasn't a big difference in performance but I did get some MPG back. What I really liked was being able to reset the speedo for my tires, it loaded the first time very quickly and was dead on the money when compared to my GPS. I also have another programmer by another manufacturer ( Hypertech ) and there is no comparison, Smarty is much faster and simpler to use. The other programmer couldn't adjust for non- stock tires. Thanks Marco and Bob for a great product.

P0602 ECM Calibration Error

I found the information that Marco posted regarding this DTC:

DTC 0602... I've worked on it hard but have yet to find a cure for it.

That is why I say in the instructions that Smarty is not detectable by the dealer when the ECM is returned to stock. With the CaTCHER softwares they could / would find DTC P0602, NOT so with the stock software. Other than code P0602 Smarty leaves no trace of it's use in the ECM and the codes are erased every time the ECM is updated. Back to stock, no codes no traces.

So my question is, If you have the Smarty installed with one of the Catcher programs active, do you ALWAYS have the Check Engine Light ON or is this P0602 just buried in the DTC's and only visible when you actually read the codes? That CEL and Gong would be annoying if it were persistent.

Thanks,

Mick
