bark stops here!

lighted rams head

I bought an AutoMeter C2 pyro gauge and hooked it up. Temps were up around 900° going down the freeway unloaded in OD at about 65 MPH, boost was around 7 pounds.

900° @ 65MPH??? UNLOADED!!!

MAN, that's HOT for that speed!

With the HX-40, MACH 6 sticks, Smarty on #9, my truck runs a lot cooler @

65! 650 maybe 700° not more. @ 95-100 I see the temps you mention!

Looks like your spinny thing... .

Hey Richard, how are you doing? Looks like you're having fun again with your new truck... :-laf :-laf

Marco

P. S. Highest boost with the above = 46 Psi.

I'm doing good enough to wrench on my truck a bit & even ride a horse some. I've still got a stiff neck but I won't let that stop me. The new truck is working out nicely but the VP44 seems a little weak & the LP needs help :-laf :-laf .

We've started stripping the old one down & I hope to put the new cab on that "old" chasse. Even with the wrecked cab that old gal fires right up & runs sweet. :D

btw, CaTCHER #9 is still by far my favorite Smarty setting.

Yep... we thought that was pretty hot as well

By spinny thing... I assume you mean the turbo? This is a PDR HX35 and I know of no other that is having any heat problems. I cannot for the life of me get it over 30 lbs of boost though. That is why I am looking for a wastegated 14cm housing to try and get those boost numbers up a few pounds.

Dunno, I find myself thinking that you have a boost leak somewhere.

That, or a leak at the exhaust manifold.

You are SURE you have none of the above?

Have you ever tried to apply a pressure of 30 or more PSI to find a boostleak?

Been there, done that, found the leak that would not show @ 20 PSI.

Food for thought... ;)

Marco

On edit. You should see more than 30 Psi with the injectors and Smarty.

About 36-38 Psi(?).

Marco,

We have pressurized the system to check for boost leaks and I didn't have any, I do not remember what PSI we used though. I seem to get the same feedback from everyone as to what boost I should be seeing with this combo, unfortunately I can't explain it! If I had the kind of boost you are thinking I should, I most likely would not be having the EGT issues that I have while towing as well as unloaded

Bob... I would like those instructions for the boost checker if you would send them. PM me for my email addy.

Thanks

Marco, will this unit provide higher RPM? Will it fuel past 3000rpm?

Mine sure won't. But maybe I don't have one of the pieces of the puzzle. I had one dyno run out to 3400. After that, I could not even get the truck to fuel past 3000. Wierd that it sould do it on the first crack and the following 15 runs it would not.

A bad IAT sensor once gave me extra hi temps (short stab up to 80 = 1200+!! empty). Boost was maxed at 32 . A new IAT made a big differance. Now same run just breaks 1000.

That's one idea I haven't heard before. I will take a look at mine.

Thanks

I just picked up a new 14cm exhaust housing, hopefully this will get me over the 32lbs of boost threshold and lower my egt's a little.

got some new fuel numbers to toss out. went back and forth to potrland oregon today

366 miles round trip cruising 70-75 most of the way . rpm always 1900 -2000

rain air on the return trip 86-90 ambient temps filled back up in auburn 18. 75 gallons at 2. 87 19. 52 mpg

this is 400 hp with mach 4's and smarty in #1 fuel saver mode.

just some info

I can go 3550 and Rip hit 3850 so far

Interesting. I wonder what is so different between your setup and mine. M4's, ect, ect.

I spoke with Rip the other day. He left me with the impression that his truck would NOT rev as far as it did with the Comp and stock ECM. Maybe I misunderstood him.
