I tried to update my smarty, and cant figure out how to convert the file from 7z. i did download the program but dont know how to use it, please help a stupid person out.

Maybe with the new software changes... there would be something in there to fix the Jeff Rhodes issue with the Smarty! Still no word as to why with any setting on the Smarty will cause the dead pedal when level 6 is used on the Hot Juice. .

From what I understand we should be able to set the smarty to NO Timing but for some reason it times on ALL the settings. .

Go to the FAQ available on the MADS page, and look for the pointer for an online source for the 7z unzipping utility - download it then use it to unzip the Smarty upgrade file, and away ya go!

Might help to make them into self-extracting zip files. Then users could download them and just doubleclick on 'em to have them unzip themselves into a smarty directory on the desktop.

Winzip would probably do that.

Not sure if there would be a software license issue with that - doubt it. Once you own it its yours to zip all the files you want and make them self-extractable (into a pre-made smarty directory where they would be ready to be downloaded into smarty itself).

My question regarding the new software is;



Is the rev limiter increased on SW#0?



I need to go get an emissions test on my truck and here is AZ they make you run it up againsit the governor 3 different times for 5-10 seconds each time. I don't want my truck to be bouncing off 4 grand like that. I will be using "Half Power (SW#0) to hopefully keep the smoke in check.

I like to be able to switch softwares to be able to use my TST or just the Smarty when running on the highway.



What is the danger, if any on the ECM by reprogramming it over and over?

It killed the memory chip in my ecm on the 2nd download. It left me setting about 30 miles from nowhere.



But thanks to Bob he had another ecm for me to get me going on his own dime. That was the best customer service I have ever had. I even offered to pay to have my old one fixed but it didn't go over.

Another thread on this board involves a long standing issue some truck owners have had with a cold weather "random miss" or "bucking/shudder" - especially noticeable and troublesome when towing or otherwise under load. This is usually is in freezing temps, and is aggravated by advanced timing, or larger injectors or increased fueling as provided by aftermarket programmers or boxes. It usually disappears once full engine warmup is achieved.



The best and ONLY fix to date, has been "tricking" the IAT into retarding timing by installing a relatively low resistance across the IAT leads - but that usually then requires added items and circuitry to engage/disengage the resistance once the engine reaches normal operating temperature - or some guys have installed a potentiometer in the cab so it can be adjusted while in motion,



Question is, assuming enough truck owners are affected and concerned, is it possible for a cold weather Smarty setting to be developed that would itself slightly retard timing for guys with this problem - but then return to a "normal" operation once the engine warms up?



Anyone else here with that problem, and interested in any possible Smarty programming fix - if that IS within the Smarty's capabilities? And what is the existing "cold weather driveability" programming for that already exists for automatic transmission equipped 2nd generation trucks?

Patiently will wait for the 4000rpm program and the best turbo to match them RPMS.

Tho, I'm keeping the edge box. I like adjustability on the fly, tho the only time I do adjust on the fly is when it's bad weather, or so hot out that you can't move with out smoking and keep up with traffic. I do have plans for a TST box + boost and EGT gauges to replace the edge box. Look for it on ebay!



Anywho. It'll be here in time for the track on OCT 13th and dyno day on the 20th.

Once you've installed the 7Zip program, open it, and click on the file location address bar. Locate the smarty ". 7z" file and click on "extract. " It will ask you where you want to put the file. Desktop works, but I built a file folder for all my Smarty files. I put the version file in there, and the USB files in their own subfolder. Once you've done that, go to the smarty USB manual. It should tell you how to go from there, that or the actual smarty book. I haven't got to that step yet. Too busy.
