Intake Manifold Tests Complete

What is the future of Smarty?

2 issues with the latest beta.

When just standing still and wishing to make some of my own cloudlyness. Mash the throttle to the floor, letting off right around 2500. The injectors just rattle something fierce. Nice poof of smoke tho ;-)

Second. On the colder days. No block heater. . Say 25-30 degrees over night. On a cold start only. When starting the RPM's are a little "springy". Doesn't fire up and just stay at 750, kinda go up to 800-850, 700, 800, 750. and then evens out.

Anything new going on here?

Yeah, anyone else here notice the recent flurry of activity for the 3rd genners - and total SILENCE as to anything in the works for the 2nd generation customers...

In other words, business as usual... :(

This is becoming more and more difficult for my usually congenial nature to handle... :-laf

It seems fairly clear that the idea of a 2nd Gen update is a dead issue!! Quite disappointing.

I agree, sucks. I havent bought one, and am wondering if I should. I have borrowed a friends, and it definately is fun to play with, but is it really worth it??? I dont know.

PS, for the code reader on these, does it work for reading any codes from any Chrysler vehicle? I would like to beable to read MIL errors on my 98 OBDII Van, and it would be a great thing to beable to read these codes too. Sick of borrowing a scanner every time this pile throws a code.

I understood that it only reads the codes from our rigs, no other brands.

I guess if we'd been smart enough to decipher this thread title "Smarty, the start of a new era", we could have recognized that to signal the END of the "old" era...

In other words, 2nd genners are a dead issue...#@$%!

I have not had any "problems" with SMARTY and given what it has done for me so far with performance and code reading/clearing ability, I am quite pleased and would definatly buy one again. Anything CAN be improved, but this one still works great as is. Thanks Bob and Marco!! great product!

It is a good box but it still makes my transmission shift poorly and I actually ran the 1/4 mile faster without it installed. I think that is due to the transmission shift problems but who really knows.

I wish Marco or Bob would just come out and say Yes or No on the possibility of an update for the VP trucks. I am not really worried about 4000 rpm, but it would be nice if the guys with transmission issues got some help.

How about it Bob or Marco... Yes or No

I'll second this! :D

Smarty's pleads innocent.

On my '99,I had a DTT uprated transmission,Edge Ez and Mach 1. 6 injectors. I had the same transmission shift issues as you. The engine produced so much more power at much lower rpm's,that it would upshift prematurely. I simply used the gear selector and set in on "two" or deleted the overdrive in town. Problem solved. Smarty installed in it didn't alter this pattern one iota, even with the Edge disconnected. This only occurred under light throttle conditions. Hammering down produced lightening quick perfect shifts. I don't think Smarty's to blame. I bought a manual this time around so I could decide when to shift.

I truly think that all the auto shift problems with smarty have to to with the way Smarty does its wonderfull business. looks to me like most of its performance comes from map compression. what would explain the great bottom end improvement but not so much top end (hence you need the rpm increase)The Auto determines it shiftpoints from throttle input (TV cable) and rpm (and related to that line pressure inside the transmission) and speed. It is still a hydro-mechanical transmission with limited adjustments. When you start messing with the factory relationship between all those parameters you can see it creates problems Notice how very little throttle input you need for normal day to day driving with smarty vs stock specialy at lower speeds where everybody has the problems. That is why if you start driving aggressively things kinda return to normal (more throttle input) not sure what the answer is to that, Messing with the TV cable creates it own problems. Short of a customised valvebody specificly for smarty @ a particular setting, buying a manual or go with some other product.

I can see when you get a fully electronicly controlled transmission, 68RFE or Allison, what a wonderfull land of oppertunity this creates for playing with performance

right now I have a "loose" TC ,I'll be swapping to a lower stall soon and report the diff (if any) to this board.

Still no updates on the S-03 yet? I am a little peaved. How many people went and bought a smarty after reading this thread anticipating what was to come only to be duped!

Truth is, I think Bob wishes this was the thread that went away... :-laf:-laf

What started out to be an informational upbeat thread turned into another 2nd generation cuss and gripe session - and well deserved at that!

Bob has been evident in posting regularly on other boards and threads, as well as on this board - but obviously avoids THIS thread like the plague - at least as far as posting is concerned.

I have little doubt he reads all that goes on here in this thread (eh Bob?) :-laf

Of course, he is undoubtedly reluctant to appear here, since there is obviously NOTHING new to offer, either now or on the near horizon... #@$%!

C'mon outta that closet Bob, we know you are really there reading all this, and most of us still love ya - it's just the Smarty and the shoddy manufacturer treatment of old faithful customers we are disgusted with. ;)
