I convinced my brother (06 6 speed, stock, 2wd) that he needs to get a Smarty since everyone here loves them, I tried it on my truck and it is pretty awesome, but we live in LA and he drives alot around town in traffic. He is unhappy because the smoking is over the top, he likes to have fun like the next guy, but he is smoking people out without even trying to, now there is the occasional (expletive deleted) that has it coming, but when people have to swerve to avoid the smoke clouds everytime he shifts it is rude and can be dangerous, is there a way to have the smarty power without the smarty smoke?

I cam swap you into another software which we do away with the smoke. Is someone there fairly computer literate?

We have a lot of options for you.

That would be great, I am the techie geek, my brother can barely use a calculator, I have already changed the software to stock torque management, I thought that might decrease the smoke, and I think it did, a little, send me the link or email me the file and I should be ok to download to the Smarty.

I felt much the same way at first, but you must learn to drive the truck different, a 6 speed should be completely controllable, an auto is where you gotta be careful, the only thing I don't like is getting the 4th grear shift too early while towing, this makes smoke control hard, without any load on the truck I can control the smoke very well

i tow everyday on hilly city roads. i had someone call me in my truck and tell me that they would never consider using my service because of the pollution that i was putting in the air. they were right behind me and i was towing a trailer up a hill in forth trying to get the boost up to were it does not smoke. i use level 3 and spend more time looking at my side mirror to control smoke than out the front windshield. not good. it is impossible to control while towing. i do see their point. i am also getting about 30-40 miles more per tank of fuel about 1 mgp, and do love the extra power.

what are the options. is their power without so much smoke and still help with fuel milage?

how can the milage be better with all that smoke, that is unburned fuel right?????

I need another program

I think you have that backwards

i can control the smoke pretty easially with throttle on my 6 speed on #3. if i don't get on it too hard down low in the rpm it is ok, and shifting at a little higher rpm makes for less smoke too [and my last tank netted me my best ever average yet 12. 9L/100km - 18. 23 MPG (us gallons) 50/50 city hwy]

That's weird, I have a stock truck (maybe that's it?) with Smarty on SW4 (90 HP) and it doesn't smoke at all when I do or don't get on it. Maybe just a light haze. :)

I run mine on level 1 with the TST box on timing only set at 3 degrees 99% of the time. I agree that the smoke is more than I would expect for only adding 30hp. Doesn't the smarty ramp up the throttle position sensor?

I think you have that backwards

you have 2 more gears than me and can control at what point your shifts happen, with my truck, as soon as I hit about 47Mph I get a automatic 4th gear shift which lowers my rpm to the 1300 range, you have to be very light on the go pedal in this situation or else you can make a car disappear. as long as you keep the revs over 1800 or so, smoke should not be that bad, with auto trucks and 2 less gears this is not always easy to do

Kurt it is not released yet, still in beta testing.

I have towed with the beta towing software (4. 4, level 3) and found nice power but also found an extreme amount of smoke while accelerating and waiting for a downshift into third. I am driving different to avoid this, and that is simply locking out O/D when I want a shift into third, then accelerating. So far I am impressed with this software but it will create a blackout under the right conditions. Under higher rpm conditions smoke is reduced compared the version I was using (405).

Well, I started this post on Sunday morning and got a reply from Bob Wagner within a few minutes that he had a program that would get rid of the smoke clouds if I knew how to update the Smarty. But it is now Monday evening and I have not gotten any response or reply as to where I can get this software from Bob, please Bob I would like to have this software so that my brother can get rid of his buyers remorse that he has after purchasing a Smarty for almost $700. If the Smarty can be smoke free I would probably buy one myself.

I tried a Smarty on my truck with the injectors. I could make a black cloud just stabbing the throttle in neutral with the 30 hp setting. It made great power but the sun disappeared when I applied any throttle.

I'm confident Marco will come up with something for your brother. Bob does offer a 30 day refund,so no worries. I'd hate to go back to a stock truck again. It's been my experience that with enhanced fueling, increased smoke is inevitable. Total blackouts, however, don't cut it. My buddy's Juice without Attitude (30-60-90hp) on his '05 will soot out his quarter panel more than my Smarty on #3. He's got a lot of timing rattle on 90hp also,or is that the sound of his 48re complaining? Hopefully we'll hear soon.

Please send me a request via email. I must email you the software

I have found that I can nearly eliminate the smoke problem by light and consistent pedal pressure thru the lower RPMs and getting it up in the higher end before upshifting, or making several light and short accelerations and upshifting. As long as you go easy, you can almost do it smoke free, and you should also eliminate a considerable amount of fuel consumption just by taking it easy. May not be "fun" but it forces you to rethink your driving habits that cause excessive fuel consumption and those changes work to keep it "in the clear. "
