Smarty Transparent to Dealer for Sure!

I took my truck to the dealer today for A/C problem describe below. Before I took it I changed the software to stock on the Smarty. I thought to myself this will be trial by fire on Smarty’s claim of “no footprint/undetectable”. Well first of all the A/C worked perfectly when at the dealer. They invoice stated that it was hooked up to the StarScan and found no trouble codes and the A/C is working and nothing wrong with it. They also wrote that “The vehicle is covered with electrical addons”. I guess when they saw all my gauges, Ravelco and by Pre-Charger it was too much. I was sure they knew I had some kind of performance programmer on it but could not prove it as they found no trace of it. I was surprise they did not say anything about my S&B filter, CFM+ intake and the missing grid heater. Do you think the statement about my electrical addons will haunt me later on or warranty issues? All my electrical addons with the exception of the Ravelco and one “ignition on” tap are hooked up directly to a separate rely directly to the battery. Any idea about my A/C?





The A/C on my 06 Mega Cab has been doing weird things the past couple of months. When you first turn on the A/C it comes on as normal and blows cold air then after about a minute or so the A/C light (which turns off the compressor) along with the recirculation light turns off and the air coming from the vents stars to warm up. Although the air is still blowing, it will not change direction i. e. it will not go to defrost or changed direction to the floor. In addition, the air coming out will not heat up even if I change the temperature to hot. If I leave it running and do nothing, in about 5 minutes the A/C and recirculation light will blink a few times and eventually will stay on cooling the air from the vent. What do you all think is wrong with it?

I doubt they were looking at all of your engine perameters trying to figure out why your ac wont work but thats just me...

The Dealer knows exactly WTF you are doing... Beleive me, they always know what is going on, they act as if they dont cuz the dealership is being paid by the parent company, all they want is their money

Ac sounds like a head(controller)issue.

Likely the controller is getting flakey,but anymore with the lemon law dealers are reluctant to eliminate possibilities by replacing the most likely part. 3 attempts and in some states it will be a buy back.

I have seen way too many intermitant actuators as well.

Bob, I have the same feeling it is the controller as well but was not sure. I knew it would not act up once at the dealer. I’m sure it will do it again and I’ll just have to take it back. I am thinking about getting this on film when it acts up and show it to the dealer.

I don't think they where trying to imply that you have voided your engine warranty and I don't think they had any reason to think you had a programmer. But the new CAN-BUS trucks can act really weird in regards to electronics. Case in point. I put in a Sony radioi n my 06. The guys at Best Buy gave me the wrong wiring harness, so I just figured out what did what and hooked it up my self. I didn't connect the wire from the ECM to the radio. Well that set a code that there was no communication to the radio and I got all kind of weird things. ABS and air bags lights would come on periodically and the high beams would flash by themselves. I finally wire nutted the two ECM/radio wires together and no problems.



I also has some crazy rear light problems when I hooked up my Walbro fuel pump different than the "recommended" way. The voltage change from the fuel pump ground caused the problems. In your case, I think the dealer was just using your add-ons as "way out" since the problem didn't jump up and slap them in the face with a code. It is possible that you did something that could be causing the problem. Basically, I looks like your gonna have to figure it out yourself. If you have a faulty part that is relatively cheap, I'd just buy it rather than fight them about the warrenty.

Most technicians are skittish when it comes to after market electrical items. Who knows if they are connected properly, and believe me there are plenty that are not. CAN bus systems can be affected in many ways, and the technician does not want to waste time tracking down a problem if he might not get paid to do it. Cell phone chargers are a great source of problems, and when the customer drops off the car/truck they pull them out. Then the dealer gets called all kinds of names because they can't verify or solve the problem. These things are not getting any easier.

The weird thing about this whole thing is after I picked up the truck from the dealer it never acted up again. Heck maybe they did something to fix it. Only time will tell. The Ravelco has benn on the truck before the A/C stated acting up and I am sure my electrical install is not interfering with the A/C. To be sure I will disconnect the one “power on” tap in the fuse box if it starts to act up again. Thanks all for your help.

I have come across a few where the a/c control connector had not been locked on correctly during add ons or what ever.

They may have accidently fixed it by inspecting it.
