Had to share

FWIW! Pay Attention at the Diesel Pumps!!!

Well, just got my notice in the mail, says Smog required and i got till Sept 30th to find a good place. At least i kept my factory exhaust intact when I put the 5" straight pipe on. Its pretty loud & I'll definately fail if I go there with that exhaust. :-laf

Naw,you guys are next. Arnie already tried to smog the classic cars. The measure was defeated.

Not entirely true, yes the 98s and older are currently exempt and time will tell on that. My 1967 VW has been exempt and then tested and then exempt as the law kept changing over the last 24 years that I have owned it. We'll just have to wait and see.

As for the Classic Cars, it was not entirely defeated. Yes 1973 and older are exempt. But when building hot rods or muscle cars that have new custom frames or kit cars, basically anything that was not using the original frame and or body, you could go to dmv and register it as the year that it most closely resembled. So a deuce coupe built/restored in 2000 could have been registered as a '32 and in effect be exempt from smog and taxes.

The state didn't like being screwed and started down the road of stopping all of this, luckily SEMA and SoCal Speed Shop got together with GM and started the e-Rod project. Using an LS motor from GM with stand alone electronics in SoCal's test mule 32 roadster, they are working on getting it to where the state will accept it as an option for muscle cars and hot rods to be smog compliant. I assume that they will have to be smogged every other year and pay taxes, but at least we can still build and register a car.

looked at the AFE open box and CFM said that they were legal but needed stickers, looked around a bit more, plugged in the OBD and that was that. Smarty was on sw 0

Uh; that's "COMMIEFORNIA" guys

Sorry, for the mispelling. I'll turn my checker on. ;)

I didn't get the smog notice this year so I'll probably get dinged next year. My DD TTPM is supposed to be CARB approved so hopefully that won't be an issue. I did mount some shock pressure guages directly over my OBD to keep the dealer out which will have to be removed when the time comes.

The DD module has a carb number? As old as they are, that would be a surprise. Do you have the carb number or any info that it is? I just planned on taking it off for the smog check.

Let me pose a question though I think i know the answer having been born and raised in SoCal. Course left as soon as I could 18 years old(a long long time ago) and never went back except to visit my parents.

Assuming emissions testing is to improve the environment(the air you and me breath) and not to make money for the state, etc. So if this is the case if your vehicle passes the emission test no matter what you have bolted on it why care? Even if it fails why does the state care and need take time to look for non=CARB items? After all you failed and have to have it fixed or cannot register or operate the vehicle. Main objective is to maintain emission levels to what is deemed appropriate(no matter if I think the level is wrong). Making things have CARB approval and taking stuff off to pass is such a colossal waste of money.

I know I know you all already know that I just had to add a couple of cents worth.

Sam,

I found all my original receipts, installation guide, etc. for the DD TTPM which I bought in 2003, and unfortunately, I didn't find anything about the CARB approval. I was certain that I heard something about this because I didn't understand the reason for it since the diesels were excempt anyway (at least at the time). Sorry, looks like removal is the ticket.

Bob, I hear you totally. Government has never made much sense to me. Here in Kalifornia, we spent all this state money to try to eliminate cigarettes completely while at the same time we are trying to legalize pot???

Thanks Dave, I have all my receipts also and couldn't find anything about it. Back in the good old days, the mfgs. didn't worry about that stuff, except for maybe Gale Banks.

Bob, I share and live with the frustations of living in this once great state. It is quite a shame what the great plague(liberalism) has done to this beautiful place.

Have a good day boys.

Sam/Bob

I share all the comments you have mentioned...

Bob you are 100 percent correct about the reason we have to smog our trucks. It's all about the money.

My stock 05 failed because two of the OBD-2 diagnostics were reading "not ready" . Just behind me sitting there with stacks was a 06 that sailed through with no problems.

People are filing through simply disconnecting all their mods only to reconnect them as soon as they get around the corner.

What happened?

You gotta wonder what went wrong here? We went from one of the best states overall with more than it's share of natural wonders and cheap living to this?

To get a carb. approval number the manufacturer has to do a lot of testing with the state to prove that the product will NOT increase the smog emitted above the stock levels, under ALL conditions. a lot of the tuners and modifications people do to their diesels will increase the smog emmissions by a very large ammount. putting them on to make a lot of horse power and to make your self feel good, with out care about the air you and I breathe, makes me mad !! I do not want to hear you snivel about having to take them off and back on again. It always has been against federal and state law to remove smog equipment or put on equipment that increases smog. some manufacturers are working to get carb numbers, and I applaud these guys. but there are others who are not trying to get a carb number because of the COST of the testing, and I have nothing but disrespect for them to keep selling their products. you guys that reccomend regestering your truck in another county to get away from the bi-anual smog checks, earn my never ending disrespect, and I really hope you pay your fines and penalties with a smile when you get caught. as more and more states start smog testing, the more we all have to work to keep our trucks clean, smog legal, and powerful. it can be done. it is our responsibility to know the laws and obey them, no matter how we feel about them. once we know the laws, we can make intelligent decisions about how to modify our trucks without destroying the environment. :-laf:-laf
