My wife's truck still has a problem and I can't seem to figure it out. Cold start in the morning there is excessive blue smoke and it will lasts a while (couple of miles). It also runs rough at start up. She says it seems like it is vibrating more than it used to cruising down the road at normal temp. I checked codes and there are none. I took out the manifold temp sensor and it was completely clean (that surprised me). There is no dead pedal associated with this problem so I am hoping it is not the VP. I am thinking it might be the injectors but what do you guys think?

On a side note is the cold start reflash a good one? (The one that bumps up the idle and runs the truck on 3 cylinders when cold. )

Thanks,

David

I have heard that there are some down falls to the cold start reflash. If you do a search here 3 cyilinder idle you should have lots to read.

How cold is it outside when you start the truck, and how long does it usually sit in that temp before being started?

The rough running is pretty normal when its cold outside, and the truck has been cold soaked for a while.

One easy option to see if its just the cold weather causing this would be to plug the truck in over night. If the problem goes away you can rule out the VP, injectors, and any other possible problems.

could be a bad battery or malfunctioning intake heater. check your cables and clean them at both batteries.

Throw a can of injector cleaner into the tank and see if that smooths up the idle. Sea Foam seems to be a favorite choice - some even fill their filter canister with the stuff and claim near immediate results.

is the block heater getting plugged it. i had mine set up on a timer and gfci was tripped. needless to say the start up on a morning that its 15 below, was pretty rough. not firing on all cylinders, smoking.
