Competition Fast truck..cool video.

FWD and trying to hook doesn't mix. My Wifes Supercharged Buick Regal GS that I have made a few changes on is impossible to hook on street tires. Tire smoke shows are just a throttle punch away at any time. Even when pulling out in traffic and not expecting it. It runs 13s with only 200. 00 in mods. Ran 14. 6 bone stock with a little finesse out of the hole on a 46 degree day.

My best friend bought a WRX Wagon last saturday and I was the first person (other than him) to drive it. Needless to say I was impressed... With his permission I built some boost and got a good launch down... I think I scared him :) Earlier in the evening he had made the mistake of telling me there was no way I could spin all 4s on dry pavement...

:-laf:-laf i did that with my boss' old landrover disco... didn't spin them much, but it did a bit... :-laf

I am not sure what kind of lame friends you hang out with, but don't try for a minuet to make others think this thing is slow out of the hole. Also, it would not matter when you tried to take that WRX, they result would be the same..... You got smoked.

And if you think that was bad, don't even look cross eyed at a STI or a Evo 7. They will JAP SLAP you so fast you will be crying for mommy.

Dodge's are fast for a truck, thats right a 6000+lb truck. Stick to playing with other trucks and you will sleep better at night. Other wise you will get abused worse then a choir boy at mid-night mass. Those guys are so bad, they can run Thur all 6 forward gears faster then your truck will start. So wake-up and smell the rubber they burn, Subbies are the real deal, the bad hombres, and the only thing the two of you share in common, are the word FAST... ... ... They are FAST... ..... while you want to go FAST.

I know stock for stock my WRX eats my ram for dinner. A HEAVILY modfied CTD could outrun it of course... . but for a few grand put into both vehicles... the 'rex' is still the better bet for speed.

Dollar for dollar the WRX is one of the best deals on a truly performance machine. How many NEW cars can you get for well under $30K and run 0-60 in way less than 5. 5 sec plus get 30MPG?

I do like the STi's VERY much but the local subie dealer is trying to unload them for $36,000. My '02 wrx was 26,000... and if I had 5K to put into it (half the difference between it and the STi)... there would not be many things on the street to outrun it... ESPECIALLY not for the money.

The WRX is defintely one of the best bang for the bucks out there. I have raced a few,but none were modded very much, just small bolt ons, exhaust ,intake, and boost contoller, thats really it. I dont think they were driven to there fullest either. I still remeber the ride TimToolManTaylor gave me in his WRX, WHOA:--) ,that littlecar was a blast, agile, nimlbe and torquey. Wish i had the $ to buy it.

I think what most of us don;t realize is how slow our trucks in stock form are. YES. . for what they are they are very fast and as BIG as they are they feel faster than what they are... I'd run a stock superduty or d-max any day. But unless I was modified and KNEW for a fact I could run 13's (minimum) in the 1/4... and had 0-60 times of less than 5 seconds... I'm not going to try and outrun much with my truck. What's the as tested 0-60 times for our trucks anyways... . I'm guessing around the 8-9 sec. range? Even if it;s in the 6-7 sec range which I doubt... the wrx and many other cars are MUCH faster... . even unmodified.

With that said I know that these trucks can and are being built to run VERY fast... and these folks who run in the 12's and 11's... yeah they could outrun most things on the street... but NOT your everyday truck with 4" exhaust and a fancy air intake... not going to happen... . and anyone who doesn;t believe me... bring your stock (or even some mildly to moderately modified) trucks around... and I'll show ya.

one thing about the suby is it is very hard to launch out of the hole for drag racing unless you drive it like a complete jacka$$ ie. rev it to 5grand and dump the clutch:p then you better hang on that thing will move. they are great little cars and a blast to drive but after one year and 10k miles the novelty wore off and I traded it on a big car (03 short bed ctd);) I missed the suby till I got my tst box:D I wish my ksb1 would get here its been 3 weeks!

What a car, you are right about it being the best buy for the buck. The STI has the center diff selector that makes it much easier to launch on hard surfaces, the back will brake loose and allow it to rev. Around hear the STI's have come down, For somewhere in the 31 bracket you can get one. It is flat worth the extra 6 grand for the STI, the wheels alone are 2500, not to mention the big block and 6-speed. We also have plenty of the Evo-7's here, about 4 miles down the road the dealership has 3-4 on the lot. I plan on get a STI myself, and can't hardly wait. I think the ride in the WRX will surprise most people, I found it to be very pleasant, and I have issues (don't laugh).

Don't get me wrong, I love and respect the Dodge/Cummins partnership, just it ain't no match for the subbie. I think you are very right about others forgetting just how slow the trucks really are. That is compared to something that really hauls asses. Plus being on this forum, it is easy to get the BIG HEAD and think your truck is all of that. I like messing with people now and again, from stop light to stop light. It is fun. Most under-estimate the speed of such a large hunk of metal, and it is fun to see there eyes when they can not pass you (oh yes). Another one to watch out for is the unsuspecting looking NEON. Not just any old Neon, put the SRT-4. It hides it self well on the street, and is responsible for making many look foolish. That is without a dought, the best buy for 20,000.

The neon SRT4 is a sweet ride too. PLUS they just upped the HP and tq to 230... and I do believe it will now run neck and neck with a wrx... I still wish it (the neon) was awd though... I think it makes a big difference... . remember the 'superstealth'... one of the few cars in its day to give the ZR1 a run for its money... . and it was awd (and aws)

It seems as though the auto market is hitting both ends of the extreme and cutting out the middle. By this i mean... it;s heavily in the truck/suv market... and heavily in the compact tuner market. Sure the middle and large sized sedans are still there... . but most of them are european and even at that there aren;t as many of them as the rice burners... and even the big 3 are making several options with small cars now. . moreso than the bigger machines.

I agree with getting an STi... IF I did not already have the wrx (which will be payed off this year).

True. I also think the truck/SUV market has hit it's peak and is in the first or second year of decline. Same goes for the Mini van, I believe most people are tired of them and they are in there third year of decline. Trends will continue to come and go, the true truck user will always need the truck, and they will always be a top seller. But I recent years (last 10) many truck byers bought not for the trucks utility but for it's popularity or social acceptance. The mini van went it's coarse, then those same people wanted SUV's, and now the Car is making a come back. I think people are tired of large hard to maneuver vehicles. They want to get away from the 30-40 gallon gas tank, and the truck ride. I believe the next trend will be back to cars. Not the Bucks and large family sedans but smaller sportier cars. The Mini, Honda civics accords, Ford focus and all the other many models available. Also the next new thing will be the low production, one off models like the crossfire, pt cruiser(which has almost run it's coarse) mini copper, and some of the new ones scheduled for release soon. Performance is back, and has been for a while. But with higher gas prices and no end anywhere in sight, the SUV and Truck buying segment will thin. I think people will still want something Different, just not the slow, bulky and gas slurping SUV's. Also, it appears that Diesels are in now, they also make a comeback when gas prices go up, but this time I think it will be different. We have technology on our side this time, now they finally have the know how to get efficient burn and very low smoke. I think we will finally get some American cars with diesels, as well as some utility vehicles, like the hopeful Rescue and Bronco.

My experience with GM Suburbans is they get the same mileage as our diesel trucks. Can't really call them gas hogs without calling my Ram a diesel hog. My last 2 4X4 Suburbans both would get 18mpg on the highway. My Dad has always purchased 2wd Suburbans and has hit as high as 22 but normally gets around 20 to 21 on the highway and 17-18 combined. Towing is where the big fuel usage shows up on a gasser. I think you will see more and more people buying 2wd trucks just to get a rear wheel drive V8 powered vehicle. I personally hate small cars. They should be the ones being charged higher insurance rates and not the safer SUV vehicles. They are fine for kids but full size adults with families need more room. Diamler has seen this and is bringing back the rearwheel drive full size V8 Hemi powered car. I look to also see GM bring back a few more rear wheel drive cars as the front wheel drive vehicles just don't have the same ride and drive as a rear wheel drive. The new Magnum and 300 are both reported to get 25 mpg and have over 300hp with room for a family to travel comfortably in them. The Caddy CTS-V with 400hp and rear wheel drive is also a nice choice. I plan on driving a new Liberty diesel myself as soon as they arrive for the Wife. Hopefully they will have some pep to them with the little 4 cylinder.

Wonder when Diamler is going to install that engine management system on the trucks that is on the Magnum and 300. It drops cylinders when they are not needed to help with fuel mileage. If it works better than Caddies ill-fated attempt at the same thing it should move the Hemi trucks well up into the upper teens or low 20s on fuel mileage instead of where they are now.
