Jump'n ship

I figure that I am going to open up a can of worms with this but this is America and here goes. I own three Diesel powered cars (older MBZ's) and my Dodge. I have been reading about AB 1058, Californias attempt to tax Diesel pickups and SUV's. Then I read about how some members get their kicks smoking out some poor guy in a convertable ,UPS drivers(I have worked for UPS 25yrs. ),or people riding bikes. It doesn't take me long to realize that some of these people could be the ones that are complaining to their legislators about these vehicles polluting the air we breathe. Again as I first said, most of my vehicles are Diesels. I love the fuel economy, the rattle, and the dependability. Should we all not use some common sense and courtesy so as not to give us Diesel owners a bad rap?:( Chris

Good point Chris,

Mine smokes like a forest fire if I really get on it, but I try to behave myself in traffic. Of course, the tail gaters sometimes get a dose of it on US101 up here on the north coast. :D

Chris, it's interesting that you bring this up I was about to post much the same. It really tics me off to hear folks here brag about smoke, I personally feel they are totally inmature A-holes that are going to ruin it for all of us. If there was a number I could call to report a smoking truck I'd have it stored on the memory dial of my cell phone and hope for a $25k fine. I like breathing clean air and feel that an inefficiently running engine, yes that's all a smoking diesel is, is an infringement on my rights to clean air. Better that folks clean up their own act before the government steps in and does it for them. It will happen.

To me, it's kind of like uh... breaking wind... in public. A behavior best dropped in junior high school. But then I read Joe G. and had to admit my pleasure in doing same. At May Madness I embarrassed myself by smoking up the joint on the dyno and appoligized to Lawrence. Guy next to me asked how he could get his truck to smoke as much. I guess there's a reason we enjoyed jr. high so much. :D Greg

Like they say Bill, a few can ruin it for many. I'm not against extra power, I had an EZ on my truck for awhile. It produced some smoke when I had my foot all the way to the valve cover. But I don't want it to smoke like a green JD at the tractor pulls nor am I giong to cause an accident smoking some poor guy out. MY $. 02 Chris

JConley nailed that!

Trouble with Cali, is every fart blows towards the east coast, I think we should just ban Californiasns and clean the air up!!

Use the smoke wisely, grasshoppers, the gestapo is watching, and some of them are your BROTHERS.

I admit that this looks cool but leave it at the track or dyno. If someone ever squirted

that crap in my window I'd be reaching for the rifle rack...

Shoot, that truck has the little injectors.

Not smoke, speeding. No one tol me Ohio has radar that comes at you.

Another guy, who has "GOT SMOKE?" on his rear window, smoked a cop down there at a stop sign.

It now says, "GOT TICKET?":D

S. Puller- I'm a little confused. Where does the stuff from the mid-west go? Why are the east coast states instituting diesel testing? I really don't want to have our lovely state government rush the institution of diesel testing any sooner than is scheduled. Diesels are about the only on road vehicle that can be seriously bombed out here, and that can be changed all to easily by a soot-lunged tailgater with a cellphone.

J. W3- We're still allowed to have our fun but like anything else, fun is a privilege that can be easily revoked, especially if my "fun" is taking away from my neighbor's.

J. Conley- that's 5/5. Bill got away, and I heard he's a pretty good shot!:D

Fun Illegal in Calif?

Jwilliams, No it is not illegal to have fun in calif. I have lived here 49yrs8mos(born and raised here). I keep telling my Wife that it is time to move out of this state. I have just seen too many tree huggers slowly take our rights away. Example... When I was 13, I had this little Honda Sport 50 that I rode in the Standard oil dirt fields. I respected where they didn't want us to ride and kept my bike baffled riding the railroad tracks thru neighborhoods to get there. As others caught on, they rode balls out on the railroad tracks un-corked, tore up equipment of Standard oil, and the icing on the cake was when some Drunk on a Triumph 650 rode off of a cliff out there, died, and his family sued Standard oil and won. Well that closed up tight that freedom! I'm not against having fun,I just try not to p!$$ off the wrong people. Kids can't even ride their bicycles at a school yard anymore! We as a people are getting regulated to death!!I'm just as tired of all of the regulations as the next guy. This site allows us to give our opinions. That is all that I am giving. Chris

it is a hard thing to talk about (worms). i love the smoke (in which i'm still stock), but there are some environmental effects. remember, the equivalent size diesel vs. gasser puts out less carbon, monoxide, carbon dioxide, and less hydrocarbons than the gasser. The particulates however, are obviously worse. it's not effecting the greenhouse gases as the carbons are... You drive a diesel, you drive a gas, you drive a propane forklift---either way you're polluting the air! until hydrogen vehicles start making it on the market, the internal combustion engine will continue to pollute. And i hate to say (for fear of getting hugged), i love diesel engines!!! Here in the east, we get acid rain. there are a lot of ~400X400 foot patches of where every tree has died in the woods of Maine. i don't like it, but this country is reliant on factories/goods. And same as motorhead, our atv's (besides snowmobiles) are severely cut back and getting worse. It's really pathetic when someone who has no relation to a motorsport, etc. complains about a drunk who died doing idiotic things and ruins it for us. "tree huggers" are often hipocrits too who drive cars but want polllution to be cut back.

It's a double-edged swored. i dunno what to really think. I love motors and love motorsports! ah well. It's not meant to be a flame! Just my opinion. All i can say about anything engine-related... ..... time will tell the future...

smoke

Smoke is good for you... . it also seperates the REAL trucks from the Grandpa trucks... . some of you "tree-huggin'" TDR members need to chill out, or sell your trucks if your that worried about pollution, my gawd... :{ :{ :{ we'll all have to die of something someday, why not it be DIESEL FUMES. . :p

Cummnzpowr, I extremely resent being labeled a tree hugger. How about you just suck on your exhaust pipe for awhile if you like it so much?
