Well folks, I haven't seen a snow plow/spreader thread on the CC fourm before and I figured I'd start one.

I was looking at the new Fisher XLS with it's expandable wings and scooping capibilities and it seems very nice. Also the Xtream V is very nice.

I figure that since I have a 4500 with an 11' dump body, it would have to be a 9'+ blade.

What are your experiences with snow plows? Which ones are the best and why in your opinions? Same for Spreaders.

Fisher, Curtis, Blizzard, Meyer, etc... What are your likes and dislikes?

I Would go with the Xtreme V from fisher. Used them for the last two years plowing. Unbelievable in how well they work and stack snow. The only issues the Company I work for plowing has had was, Wrong steel for cutting edge(wore out in a few storms) Sleepers in Concord took care of them and a few other small warranty issues. SPreaders we have been running Salt dog and picked those up a volvo on manchester st in concord.

Now on the other I do love the attachment points on the Western. Love the fact in the spring or any time you can remove mounting points from truck and be back to relatively stock hieght in the front with nothing hangin down low.

Thanks for the reply. It seems like Fisher is the "big dog" in the market and for good reason.

I'm just beating around the idea of a plow and sander for the truck to put the truck to work for the winter.

I know Manchester St. in Concord well. It is about 45 minutes west of me. I'll go over there in the next week or so to look things over. I'm sure that if I were to purchase something ... that would be the end of the snow for the winter in NH.

I have plowing for 32 years and have been running Boss plows for the last 10 years. I like Boss plows more than any other I have used (fisher, western, diamond , pathfinder and myers). Try going to plowsite.com. They can give you enough info to make your head spin!

Volvo dealership sells salt dawg and boss plows they are on Manchester ST. Banks Chevrolet sells western, next to volvo dealership. EW Sleeper sells fisher they are on loudon rd just after you cross over Rt 106 on the right. Good luck with the ponderin. My truck came with all the wiring and push plates for an extreme v just don't have the 5k extra to go out and pick one up to put the truck to work. Good Luck. PM me when you think you are coming over love to take a look at your Ride.

For work we run Force America controls with a 3 yard Henderson salter and 10 foot wide Henderson blade this is our second year running this combo.

The trucks are 5500c/c with 4:88 limited slip 4 door with a12 foot dump bed did I say how wonderfull this 2009 dodge with the mighty cummins and auto trans is

Its great.

I have used several brands, meyer, fisher, and western. I knew two people who swear by Curtis. If I had the $ and I don't currently. . lol I've been rocking a meyers setup on my dodge, I'd do a custom live hydraulic setup. Fatcat, I think I showed you this truck's setup when you were looking into buying your chassis cab a while back.

I like the stainless or poly blades for durability and corrosion issues. I have used v plows and they are nice especially to scoop left overs up and for stacking piles. I hven't used any v plows that you could lock out the v function and just use the plow like a traditional straight blade. Do any of the manufactors offer that now?. also most of the plow companies offer their plows and mounts with out the controls etc if you want to go central hydrualics. .

Also every HighSuperintendant I know says buying regular steel sanders or dumps is a waste of $. Spend the extra $ on stainless and they will last.

That Snowfighter is quite a set up

I had a chance to stop at a Fisher dealer down the road from me at the Lee Circle in NH and got some info. The Stainless Steel XtreamV 9 1/2' setup was quite nice. I do like the idea of a trip edge instead of a full trip blade.

But the Boss plows are what a lot of folks on the PlowSite.com website seem to be recommending.

I'm still looking and debating if this would be worth it for me to do a plow setup and maybe in the future a sander.

Thanks for the info.

i work for a big plowing company in ny and at one time all we had were fisher v blades, when the xls came out we figured we would give it a shot... . now we have 4 of them and we are in the process of swapping all our v blades out for the xls.

Also I find full blade trip edges on a stright plow are real easy to use. You can instantly see / know that you hit something and tripped the plow. On a edge trip plow you can't instantly see it. You have to feel it and if you miss feeling it, you realize it when the snow isn't plowing correct... . I'm still old school and like full plow trip my self. . not sure if the make a V Plow with a plow trip though.
