Who has tried the snow Diesel Stage 3 MPG-MAX™ Boost Cooler does it really make a difference when towing to help keep the EGTs in check? and with millage? or with performance? any opinions please chime in.

I've been running the Snow MPG-MAX for about 2 1/2 years. You can make it do what you want or need. Want to run real cool just run water. Want mileage and cool and a little kick in power run about 30% meth and water. Want lots of power and mileage run 50% meth to water and still get some cooling but watch out head gasket with too much timming. So far I have nothing but good to say about the Snow kit. No matter the mix or no mix I use about 1 1/2 gallons every 100 miles pulling my trailer with combined weight of 16000+ with the 1st stage of injection coming on at 12 psi of boost and the 2nd stage coming on at 25 psi of boost. I don't use the 3rd nozzle. I don't need it yet but I'm getting there. Hope this helps you out.

Lots of threads on that one.

I was part of the TDR group buy on this one way back when in the before time when Matt Snow was building and selling out of his basement.

Verified Dyno results showing increased HP and TQ based on Water/Meth mix (a good way to find the right mix % - I run 25% meth and 75% water).

My kit is the original stage 1 with the 2 stage controller. First stage (50% duty cycle) kicks in at 15psi, 100% duty cycle at 22psi). Driving up I-70 over Eisenhower (5280 - 11k+ altitude). Cruise set at 70. Boost and EGTs start to climb on the 4%+ grades. At about 1100* my boost will hit 15psi. W/M kicks in, boost jumps to 19psi and EGTs start to drop fairly quick (about 10 seconds) back to 900 - 930. This was back when I was running 80hp injectors and both the Edge EZ and Edge Comp (1x1). That is sooooo cool to watch that EGT gauge drop while pulling a hill. Same results with the Edge units on or off.

Now with my twins and 100hp injectors, the same grades I jump to 23psi +/- pretty quick. Same results except the EGTs do get a bit lower.

I still need to reset my W/M controller to change the duty cycle kick in. It does not take much of a incline to hit the 15psi mark - ergo the M/M is on a lot more frequently.

1. Don't ask how many miles I get per gallon of W/M mix. Usage is all a matter of how much you drive with XXpsi of boost.

2. You need to have a minimum of a 4 gallon capacity for towing or mountain driving... minimum. I have a 5 gallon tank and will use every bit of it on the return trip from Dillon CO to Denver (70 miles) either unloaded or bed full of firewood or granite rock (just touching the overload springs). I have not towed anything larger than a motorcycle trailer loaded with rock.

3. Figure out the mixtures of W/M for your driving needs. I. E. - Too rich (high methanol%) will cause some slight detonation and higher EGTs for daily cruising. Too little will not give the cooling ability. Racing... most people run 100% for the power and screw the EGTs.

For the gains in HP and the EGT cooling, this is one of the best mods a person can put on their truck and the biggest bang for the buck. Double bonus, it will clean your intake, cylinders, and exhaust up to the turbo of carbon better than anything on the market (steam cleaning). Follow the proper usage and rust is not an issue in the intake.

You can buy straight Methanol and mix your own, or as stated, use windshield washer fluid. If you use washer fluid make 100% sure it is METHANOL not Ethanol or Alcohol. Ethanol is bad juju. I've hit spells where I have to spend half a day hitting parts stores and gas stations looking for the right stuff.

I have no affiliation with Matt Snow or Snow Performance. The above statements are given purely as an end user result of the mentioned product.
