the other day I saw a chevy dually with not one, but two big ol' 5" fatties hangin' out the back behind the rear wheels :--) :--) :--) I had to chase the guy down at the supermarket to find out what was under the hood that needed two 5"ers! thought maybe he had a CTD conversion or something 'cause you'd be wastin' your money if it was a 6. ? chev POS! turns out he's gettin' ready to drop in a 502 in a month or so. Any how it was way impressive looking!
Chris in a 4X4 NO way maybe in a 2wd. I have a 4" rip system on my 4X4 and it barly fits I mean 1/4 betweem the t-case and the pipe about about 3/8 between the pipe and the frame.
I have seen kits out there for 5" do I think it is possible. Unfortunalty I can't remember who makes them. Look on the ATS website, I think they have them. I actually remember seeing an 02 dually with 5" exhaust now that I think about it.
Ok, then how? They must have run the pipe outside the frame or something, because the people here who have 4" say there is very little clearance between the pipe/frame/t-case.
If you have to crush the pipe down to near-4" size, then there's no point in going to 5" because that restriction there would add more back pressure. Exhaust can only flow as well as the tightest restriction.
I have a 4" that runs under the frame, then up to the center front of the bed where I added a y pipe (inside the bed) to split it to 5" stacks. You could run it beside the frame, but then you would still have to cross over to the center to balance the smoke flow. I ordered all my parts from Rikers at a local semi parts shop.
