I just got back from Phoenix after having my DTT stuff installed. All's I can say is ~ WOW!! :D :D

One more time for emphasis ~ WOW!! :D :D

While I had a wee bit of turbo lag before, the transmission used to slip so much that the turbo spooled up before it was noticeable. It was almost embarassing to punch it and only get a little black puff of smoke. Not that I'm into smoke or anything. ;)

Not a problem any more. Now that it grabs, the turbo lag is much more noticable and smoke is on command. And I have the little HY-35 too. I would hate to see what the lag from the larger turbos is like.

The Big White Beast is now a Smoke Belching Dragon!

Garrett

Typically lag with a larger turbo will be greater, unless you go with one of Piers' Hybrid HX-35's.

The best way to cure lag is more HP, but it looks like you have a few under the hood now. Maybe you need Super Mental injectors or an Edge Comp box :D

What % TC did you go with.

how are your EGTs?

Garrett,

You have about the same setup as me, but I'm running an HX35-12. Talk about turbo lag... that HX35 is a dog off the line with my setup. I'm gonna have to look at Piers' turbo when I find some more money. How are your EGT's with the HY35?? Thanks.

Hey guys,

I have not installed my 91% TC yet. It's a work truck and haven't been able to fit it into the schedule yet. W/ BD1s and an EZ, am I going to be looking at this problem too. I'm not prepared to spend the bucks on a Comp and stage 2 injectors at this point. Should I consider a 89% TC? TIA

Tom

Tom,

Given your setup, I would think the 89 would be better for you.

Don't believe me, call Bill and ask him. From what I have been reading on the TDR, they (DTT) are recommending the 89% TC much more than the 91.

-Ryan

Tom,send that 91 back, and get an 89,I have the 89,my Dad has the 91,the 89 is better, believe me,unless oyu are running tons of HP. Off the line,no amount of power will get you no lag, just tons of black smoke. My Dad really wishes he had the 89 now, after driving mine.

BWB,,i was running a powermax3 when my dtt stuff was installed and was very disappointed with the big time turbo lag. no more hole-shots. i added the edge ez and it help some. i upgraded the powermax3 to a competition version and now the lag is hardly noticable

89% for me......

With the load on my truck all the time it's the one Bill K. recommended. I unloaded a lot of crap from my truck so Fred @ Desert Deisel could get the truck on his lift. Got it down to 9K lbs. Coming home from Phoenix there is about a 5 mile 6% grade and there was a huge head wind, I passed everyone on the way up. Never got past 1000° pre turbo. 31 Lbs. max boost. transmission never came out of lock up. A Ford Expedition gasser tried to keep up. No match for the mighty Cummins on a hill. :D :D

transmission temps seem a little lower, extra fluid from the Mag Hytec and a new filter might account for that.

I've had my EZ set on level 2 to help with the stock transmission slipping. Maybe I'll go back to 3 now and see if it helps the low end or just belches more smoke. I don't rabbit start that much anyway, being a work truck and all. And with all the tree huggers around here I have to watch my smoke. God I love this truck!

Garrett

Tom,

I had lots of turbo lag when I had the 89% TC and VB installed. My truck was a real dog off the line. I was stock at the time with 3. 54 gears so I added a DDTTM and what a difference. Off the line was back to normal . The DDTTM was a real life saver because I wasn't happy with the performance after the install. I run the DDTTM on the most aggressive setting that fuels at 3 PSI. I tried the delayed fueling at 20 PSI and didn't like it at all. I'll let you drive my truck and see what you think if you want. With the extra weight you carry I would go with the 89% .

Sounds like you need to try KwikKurts HX-40 in the 12cm housing like I have, With Bill K's set up the Kwikspool was the missing link. :D

tmacc, the 91% TC will work. But if you are in any kind of altitude, the 89% might be a better choice for your truck.

I have customers that run both, and for California emission trucks, the 89% is a better match.

I personally run the 91%, and I am unloaded the majority of the time. I only notice the difference when I am in higher altitudes. Say around 7000+.

If you're still not sure, then the 89% may be your better option.

If you haven't installed it, then consider the option that is there to go to the 89%.

On Garrett's 3500, he's heavy all the time, and the 89% was the better choice for him, where he drives, and his power options.

Garrett, you have an awseome looking truck. I like the looks of the utility bed and rack. And yes, it is heavy.

Thanks for the response guys. My truck usually runs about 8-8. 5k w/ occasional towing of an equipment trailer, such as this week and last. It had two decks worth of pressure treated lumber and (20) 80lb bags of sakcrete. I'm guessing about 6-7k including the trailer itself. Total 14-15k. It was blowing a pretty good cloud of smoke as it is. Man, did the truck need that TC. Not sure how far I'll go w/ the power upgrades. Turbo and exhaust for sure, (not anytime soon) but I need to keep things reasonable due to the fact that it is a work truck and get used every day. 35-36k miles a year. We don't have any altitude around here. Maybe 3500 ft if you look real hard for it in W. VA. or western MD. LOL

I noticed that Garrett and Steve don't live at altitude either. Hmmm

Guess I better give Bill a call. I was a little suprised at how few questions I was asked when I orderd this stuff. Must hve sound like I knew what I wanted. I should be more like the wife. Keep asking questions till they cry for mercy. LOL I'm not kidding either.

Anthony, I see you on the 10th. I'd like to drive your truck then if it's OK w/ you.

Don, I don't want to drive your truck or even ride in it. I don't think the bank account would survive it. LOL Must. . keep... repeating. "It's a work truck. It's a work truck. It's a... . " I'll see you on the 10th too.

Thanks again for the responses.
