Something pops in front

Anybody have any experience with a poping noise in the front of a 2wd when turning and going over a bump like the entrance to a driveway? My truck started making this pop that is very annoying when I turn in to my driveway. I have crawled around under it looking for anything that looks loose, but I can't find anything that is obviously loose. I'd like to figure out what it is and then decide if I want to take it to Dodge <groan> and try to fight with them about warranty or just fix it myself.

It won't make any noise just sitting still and turning the wheels.

mikel, mine has a pop felt through the steering when accelerating from a stop or when driving over an uneven surface and making the truck rock at low speeds (like pulling into the driveway off-angle). It has done it off and on since about 5,000 miles (now at 34,000). I have a 2001 2wd.

I am pretty sure, on mine anyway, it is the couplings (cheap universal joints) on the steering shaft. I there is a little looseness on mine and you can wiggle it around by hand. This may be what you are experiencing. As far as a fix, I donno. . there is the Borgeson steering shaft, but I see Summit Racing sells billet needle bearing steering U-joints for much less that may fit our application and cure the problem.

My truck just suddenly started the same thing after I sprayed engine cleaner on various parts of the engine including the universal joint in the steering column. The thump/pop started the next day. I guess I removed some grease/gunk. I've sprayed the universal joints with liquid white lithium grease and that helped but the thump/pop is still there. I now have 42,000 miles.

Thanks for the help, I'll take the wheels off this weekend (it's time to rotate them anyway) and take a good look at everything under the truck. I'll also check out the steering shaft, I hadn't even thought about that being the source of this noise.

I will gladly bring this back to the top as I have posted the same topic many times and have not gotten many responses. My truck was wrecked prior to me buying it. (Mistake numero uno) It has had new lower ball joints (entire control arms) and a new stabilizer bar installed to address the pops I have. Exactly like yours. Finally took it to a heavy duty frame/alignment shop and they concluded the source of the popping was the bottom of the coil spring moving in the control arm. Not believing this I crawled under my 2000 2WD 3/4ton with my wife turning the wheel back and forth and I can not only feel the pop but I can see the source. The upper control arms are moving on the pivot rod they are mounted to. Both sides and both sides pop. Truck was only hit in passenger side front. I checked the torque on the pivot bar nuts and all 4 were lower than the 125 spec so I tightened. Still pops but slightly less. I am now at 130 pounds and it is a little better. I am debating going up to 135-140 pounds. I am pinching the rubber bushings pretty good. I plan to keep going higher till the noise goes away. I know overtightening will cause premature wear but the popping is wearing the bar/bushings too. Right?

That is my 2 cents worth. Hope you find the source. I agree, it is a very frustrating noise.
If anyone has advice for the problem I have found please feel free to chime in.

Check your trackbar. Mine has been doing this for sometime. I can make it stop temporarily by greasing it but it comes back.
