Hey guys,

I am interested in any sort of source for dually fenders for a first gen. I am contemplating buying a truck in the classifieds, but it doesn't have fenders on the rear. Is there any aftermarket place,or source for these items, and if not can the truck be easily converted over to single wheel?I am pretty sure the axle in the rear is the same width on a dually as a single wheel, but the front would have to be addressed,or it would require two spare wheels right? Thanks in advance.

Chris

A dually rear axle is not the same width. It is the widest of the three axles used in our trucks. The SWR axle is the narrowest. The C&C axle is 6" wider. Then the dually axle is 12" wider than a SWR axle.

There used to be a place that made aftermarket dually fenders. I don't rmember the name. Some member said the fit was poor on them also. Dodge has them listed as NS1. No longer aviable. So ebay is about your only choise.

Search ebay for member name chysler-w. He's had a few nos pass. side fenders up for auction. Starts them out at $100. Good luck on finding the driver side. You could get a srw bed and buy the arrowcraft conversion fenders. They won't work on a drw since it's cut out so large. When I checked back in September they ran about $450 for the set. If I were in your situation, I would pull the outside dual off until I found a set of fenders.

If you are going to convert to srw, just get the rotors for a srw truck. They used the same spindle. I did the reverse of this when I converted my 91 into a drw.

edit- just found this. might be worth a call.

I've never seen their fenders so I can't comment on quality. The company's name is arrowcraft. . probabaly www.arrowcraft.com

Thanks for the replies so far guys. Keep them coming. If I remove the outer wheel on both sides of the rear can the truck be driven like that for a while until I get either the arrowcrafts,or some other fender extensions?Would anyone be willing to swap a dually axle for a regular axle? The bed in the pic on his site looks like a regular bed without the fender extensions, but is it really?

On an unrelated note the seller of the truck say that it needs a new transmission(getrag),and bought a used transmission that comes with the truck, but he said he is not sure it is the transmission. He mentioned it may be the flywheel,or the clutch. He says he can put it in any gear, but the truck doesn't move.

Is this the grey crew at the Dodge salvage yard? If so, its a drw bed with no flares on it. You can drive the truck without the outer wheels on it as long as you'd like. If you are going to use the arrowcraft fenders, you'll need a regular srw bed. They told me that since the drw bed is cutout so large, the fenders won't have anything to mount to.

What I ended up doing on my dually conversion was finding another bed with dually fenders already on it. The bed I had on there first was beat very bad. I placed a want ad and had quite a few offers pouring in. There was a guy in Maryland that had one for like $600. The one I ended up getting was closer, cheaper, and was the color of my truck (mostly).

mazdarotary,

It sounds like the clutch to me, or maybe input shaft or possibly rear axle. If the truck is 4x4 then it could also transfer case. Think I would be wanting more answers before I bit on it.

Godspeed,
Trent

The truck is the grey one at the salvage yard, and yes it is a dually bed without the fenders mounted. I just talked to the seller, and he said it does have the fenders on it now(that isan old picture),but that he had a few blow-outs,and that they damaged the fenders by cracking, and knocking a piece right off.

If I can drive it without the outer wheels on it then that would be fine until I either get a different axle/bed,or find the proper fenders. Will the rear hubs be hanging out real far without the outer wheels mounted? Is it really hard to convert the front over to a single wheel setup?I could use the dually bed with a regular width axle if I wanted to,right?

Oh yeah the truck is a 2wd,so it isn't the transfercase. Maybe the clutch, transmission,or a combination?

Thanks again.

Keep in mind that the fender might be repairable. Ask for pics of them. My dually got hit in my driveway, right on the fender. I got it fixed and you couldn't tell (except for the primer instead of paint!) but it wasn't that bad. The hubs will stick out, but if you keep them in mind all the time, then you won't have a problem. Before I got my drw bed on, I drove mine for a couple months w/o the outer wheels and the hubs hanging out, and I had no problems. The drw bed will work with a srw axle. The interior of the wheelwell is the same regardless. The front is super easy to convert to the srw setup. Remove the spindle nut, slide the old rotors off, install new bearings and srw rotors, and button it back up. If you can work on rotaries (me and them don't play well together) then I don't see why you couldn't do this using one hand while asleep.
