Saw the post and thought I would share some of my insulating thoughts with you. I recently went through the whole truck and insulated the cab for noise and heat, and I also insulated the engine compartment and exhaust system components for noise and heat, mainly heat and heat soaking.
I used products from DEI and Cool It Thermo Tec, both offer quality components and are available from Jeggs or Summit Racing, I use both stores and love the service each provide. For the turbocharger I used the Cool It turbo wrap kit, it is easy to apply and comes with more then enough material to do the job. It you have patients the finished product will look great. I also insulated the exhaust manifold, for that I used the Cool It header manifold blanket kit, this kit contains enough Aluminized backed heat proof material that you can easily fashion a manifold blanket for the Cummins diesel. I made mine so it covers the top and has a 5" lip to cover the turbo side of the manifold. Works great and drooped under hood temps by 40 degrees. In order to cover the exhaust from turbo outlet to down pipe I had to make three separate covers. I used the Cool It Aluminized heat barrier as a outer cover, and on the inside I used several layers of Cool It header wrap. Each separate cover consisted of the same thing, an outer cover with multi-layers of header wrap lay ed length ways, to hold everything together I used Permatex heavy duty carpet adhesive, just coat each side very well and it will stay. The first cover was for the area from the turbo to the E-brake, second one was for the E-brake area, and the third was the down pipe. I secured the covers with Cool it snap straps, you will need plenty to hold everything in place. Take your time and it will come out nicely, the wrap really reduces under hood temps and makes the turbo much quicker to spool up. I went extreme, and insulated almost everything that is effected by heat. The AC lines, intake air box, charged air piping, and even the sender wires in the area, you might not need that level of insulation, but it does work well.
