Went to the desert this weekend and passed a new ford pulling a 5er,Im pulling a 25 ft toy hauler. He looks at me and smiles so Im thinking yea this cummins is doing good(six gun on 6). He LETS me get about 5 lengths on him then nails it!Im looking in my mirror and see him catching up. He was laughing the whole time!!Ok, Im dissapointed. This truck should be at least equal to hp and tq as a stock ford. I tell myself hes bombed and let it go at that.

On the way home I see a chevy in my rear view pulling another 5er. This one has a banks emblem on it. He passed me like I was standing still!!Mind you both times we were all going up a 6 % grade.

With the mods done to this truck it has to be at least equal to a 600 and probably more. Oh well.....
 
Sorry to hear that you got spanked and beat, hope the bruising wasn't to bad. These other trucks may have had more bombing than was obvious so don't feel to bad.
 
One of them was a weekend warrior. I understand those are somewhat lighter than most. That chevy was pulling a sand piper if I remember correctly. It must have passed me at about 70 mph. I held 55mph.
 
I normally tow our 7000 lb 5er at a bit over 60 mph - up 7% grades or out on the flat - I *can* go lots faster on the grades if I choose, but that's a safe comfortable speed on routes I travel. I pass many similarly loaded trucks - and quite a few rice boxes on the grades... BUT, if another truck has what it takes to pass ME in those grades (never happened yet!), I'll just give him a big thumbs up and congratulate him on a good performing rig!

You mentioned the Banks six-gun on 6, I don't know what that's rated for, but for the sake of argument, let's say a bunch... 100+? My question is, where did that power go? Your signature doesn't tell the upgrade story. Unless your transmission is upgraded (or clutch), maybe your power just turned to heat and never made it to the rear wheels. Or maybe the Banks system is smart enough to detect a slipping auto-trans or high EGT and reduce power as a safety precaution... good idea if your trans is stock and / or you don't have gauges.

Also, you didn't mention your approximate GCVW, do you know what it is? Of course you'll never know what they weighed, but you may have been at a significant disadvantage.

I just notice my sig doesnt come up. Hmmm.

six gun no speed loader,afe proguard 7,full banks exhaust. 18500 gcwr. Max ex temp is 1180. The tq hasnt slipped. I have not felt it and the banks box didnt record a code(thats the first thing I checked). No smoke out the tailpipe whatsoever. Im not complaining per say about my truck but if you could have seen how much acceleration that chevy had!!!

Don't worry about it: We BOMB our trucks, they BOMB their trucks. There's always someone that can go faster, hopefully they stop as well. I'm happy with both my rigs and their hauling abilites.

ANYWAY, as much as we like to rag on the Fords and Chevies - when a guy gets a good one, and applies the right mods, they can really fly - they just are likely to CRASH lots sooner than a similarly upgraded Cummins will... ;)
 
You really have to consider everything involved. Weight, wind resistance, gearing, drivetrain (2wd/4wd), SRW/DRW. Chances are, things were not equal by any stretch.



Aside from that, as been said... Someone will always be faster. And faster only counts on the track. He didn't collect a prize for passing you..... just the privilage of stopping for fuel sooner. ;)

So your basically stock? I think I'd expect to get stomped rolling stock. Get some fuel and a Turbo if it bothers you that much.
 
Kblond,never said it bothered me. When I purchased this truck I didnt test drive a ford or chevy. I new the cummins would provide me the longevity and durability I expect from a 40k truck. What I didnt expect was for the duramax to be so powerful bombed or not. The ride is terrible though. I bet that guy had a handful going thru those turns!

Not if he had quadrasteer... Just hooked up my 29' Airstream (About 7k with all of the assorted crap in it) and pulled with my 325/600, passed Fords and chevy's like they were standing still. Got it up to 80 once just to see what it would do, it was only turning about 2400 rpm!!! This is a stock truck... cant wait for the aftermarket guys to catch up, no telling what it will do with juice hooked up if they ever come out with it.

Same reason you called me kblond. Whats the diffence between bothered and dissapointment? Even if you where bothered, that's all I was saying. Take it for what it's worth or not.
 
I just reread my first reply to you Kbond and I did drop an L in there. The L and O are close together and I type with 2 fingers. My mistake and and no offense I assure you. It bothers me when My 5 year old boy rides his bike near my truck. I was dissapointed when he didnt like the 50cc honda I bought him. He likes the quad better!Anyways... slow day at work today...
