I have the stock head unit and wanted to put in speakers for the rear as they sound very muffled. I have the 6 speaker system in a 2001 quad cab. I mostly listen to talk radio or books on tape. Maybe if I had something a bit better I would listen to more music.

I wan to either find some decent (cheaper) 6. 5" or fit a pair of 3-way 6x9's I already have in the rear quad cab door. Any suggestions? (if I do the 6x9 I will put in a small amp to power them)

What have you guys done for a modest upgrade.

I know that Crutchfield has a "what fits my vehicle" function on their website. Probably a good selection of speakers for just about every vehicle. Not the cheapest, but then you wouldn't have to hunt around either.

I have always been happy with purchases from them- they include any wiring adapters and installation instructions. Their return policy is good too- I returned a CD changer to them several months after I bought it- I was delayed in installing it and then found out that it couldn't be wired in to my aftermarket stereo. They gave me full credit.

Good luck,

John

Do you have the Infinity system? As I recall, it was harder to upgrade because the speakers had built-in amps. But its been a while since I looked at it so I could be mistaken. Good luck on your upgrade - I need to do that too as my 7 year old factory speakers are getting tired...

speakers

I just installed a new stereo in my 06 :-laf The front speakers are 6x9's

and the rear were 5. 25's round, of course w/a saws-all anything is possible :D :D

The factory rear Infinity speakers are really very good speakers. They are a true 2-way design, and to upgrade them you would have to spend a fair amount of money, or go larger as you suggested. If it's really that bad I suspect they are damaged/worn out or you have another problem...

jig saw works better

Nice setup TS Brown. In my truck, I found a JL Audio Stealth box that fits two 10's beneath the seat. It allows the seat to fold and lock flat. It actually bolts through the bottom of the cab. I have two amps that I put behind the back seat. Believe it or not, there's quite a bit of room, but now I can't fold up the seat. Oh well. Lost Trucker is dead on the money. The rears are 5. 25's and the fronts are 6x9's. If you are going to get good speakers, I highly recommend MB Quart RCE's. They sound friggin awesome! Once I can save up some money, I'm going to get a set. Check out this website for more info on speakers. Don't put big money into the rears, just put your money into the fronts. http://www.leecao.com/caraudio/index.html
