My son has a 92 with about 180k miles on it. The injectors have never been change. Does it take any special tools to remove and replace the injectors?

If you look in my reader's rigs pics you'll see a very rudimentary puller that I made and used successfully. But I have also changed injectors without the tool using both a very large screwdriver as a prybar... and also using a Snap on style prybar and they both work.

Clean around the injector base well and prepare them with marvel, or PBblaster, WD, etc. for a day or two.

Also a small bore brush (. 38 cal bore brush works) to clean out the hole once the injector is out... . a good shop vac is handy to suck out the holes..... )I'm gonna get a few comments on that statement I'm sure)... . :-laf :-laf

Hope this helps.

Tugger. When I pulled your nozzels with the grips, they didn't suffer much damage. Can't say the same about the ones I pulled from a school bus though.

I sold my old injectors (close to 300K miles on them) on eBay. I forget who it was but the buyer was a TDR member.

I couldn't get mine out with vice grips so soaked them w/blast and made a special tool (cummins part #89er237429er5blah blah :-laf ) just a 12mmX1. 5 pitch nut welded to an old old sodering iron with some scrap steel just long enough to work under the hood on #6

With 500k miles on my 93 and running quite well I might add, I know of no reason to change the injectors unless you want bigger tips. You can make a snatch hammer (no snickering Jay) with a line nut and a bit of Rube Goldberg engineering.

A snatch hammer huh, must be a Georgia thing. You have to forgive us raised north of the Mason Dixon line--is that sorta like a slide hammer? :D
