Speed sensor replacement

Hey guys just though id get your feedback on something. I was heading back from work today and i noticed my speedo wasn't working and the abs/ brake light was lit up. I keep reading that it is common and i have to replace the speed sensor on the trans and rear end but i can't seem to find the sensor for the rear end. Any suggestions/ do i even need to change them? 05 5.9 48re trans dana 70 rear. Thanks

VSS is read off the sensor on the rear diff, not transmission. It is commonly called the ABS sensor on the rear diff.

Tone ring is on the ring gear, should be rear ABS sensor by description.

Since I do not see a reply regarding location I will take a guess. On the second gens it is on top of the pumpkin, may be the same for yours.

I thought that the question was the location too. Reading the first post, he states he couldn't find the LOCATION of it. Not what it is called.

The tone ring is a different part. It's a metallic ring with teeth. The sensor works on the presence / absence of metal to generate pulse signal.

It is confusing, and he does not even know that he has a AAM axle and stated Dana 70. In 2003 they switched to AAM axles. SnoKng

Thanks guys i found the sensor on top of my 2005 dana 70 rear. It was sitting right on top of the pumpkin.

Ha! Ha! on and it is the only 2005 with a dana 70, wonder how it got there in place of the much bigger normal AAM dif? SnoKing

Yea thanks bud it was a special ordered truck direct from mopar... one of one... very rare! It as part of the towing package because the aam diff couldn't handle the payload.
