HI,

Can anyone tell me how to get the speedo recalibrated for 305/45 22 tires on my 06 ctd. it reades about 5 miles per hour slower than actual speed . I need the exact details so i can take it to my dealer . thanks

regards conn

Heather from Rickson here... 2003-2005 Dodges can get the speedometer recalibrated at the dealer by having them change the revolutions per mile of the new tire, or, if one prefers, these trucks can accept the TruSpeed (made by SuperLift) electronic speedometer correction unit.

But you have a 2006 and as it turns out, neither approach will work on the 2006-up trucks. So, the dealer can change the tire dimensions to something as close as possible to your new tire size (in your case, 305/45R22 = 32. 8" tall). The electronic unit I mentioned will not work on '06-up Dodges.

I have been researching speedometer correction for '06-up Dodges as well so if anyone has a better suggestion I definitely would like to learn more.

Thanks.

thanks for your help, i am looking to get the dealer to do it . last year i had a 2006 3500 mega cab and went to the dealer with a printout from the tdr on how to change the rpm of the tire ,but i cannot find it ,i know last time they had to go through the star scan ,and to the abs but just dont remeber what they need to do after this. can anyone fill in the blanks

regards conn

Does it hurt anything if you don't recalibrate the speedo when going bigger in tire size, other than that the speedometer is off,?? does it effect the engine and fueling parametersbeing put out by ECM ??

No problems... ... ... except if you have any warranty issues that they try to get out of you will find a statement in your warranty book(most years) that if your mileage can not be proven accurately ... ... ... ... ... .....

There are a number of tire sizes listed that can be chosen in the star scan to get the speedo closer the largest diameter being the 285 that the power wagon uses for the 06 and 07 models. As heather stated, the 03-05 you can enter the revs per mile using the drb3.

My favorite way is using a Smarty... ... ... and it will run BETTER.

BoB4x4,

Can you explain more about the Smarty, ... . how it(truck) will run better using the Smarty to correct for bigger tires ?? So if you don't recalibrate when going to bigger tires, you are giving up power because the ECM thinks it's fueling for a certain tire size, when really it's not ?? Can you explain please ??

Thanks,

Randall

Well just using the speedo correction portion won't make it run better, but download just the 30 hp level and you will wonder why you didn't do it the day you drove the truck home.

If you change your tire size to taller than stock, recalibrating your speedometer is not necessary by any means and will not effect anything at all…except, your MPG reading will not be accurate………And, you may be more likely to get a speeding ticket (!!)
