Ok, I know this has been discussed at length, but having just returned from a 1500mile trip, my lights stink! Even with higher-wattage bulbs, they are part of why I hate American vehicles... my VW low beams are FAR better than my Rams high beams... . ANYWAY... . I havent experienced the sport lights; are they better? If so, where is a good source to buy them? Other than some metal trimming on the fenders, is there anything to a conversion... like wiring or plugs? Thanks, guys!

I just got my sport headlights from Mark Rodgers last night. (BTW thank you very much Mark, you are the man!) The truck is still in the shop, but I will get it back tomorrow. I will post and let every one know how they work. As for wiring, I got a heavy-duty harness for high wattage bulbs. That gave me the additional two plugs for the other two bulbs, and the necessary power handling. I got the harness from www.coolbulbs.com/HDharness.asp. Their harness plugs into the factory harness, in effect giving you three plugs. I will just spice the coolbulbs harness directly into the factory harness, and then use the plug that was going into the coolbulbs harness for the fourth plug. That might be confusing to some of you until you look at the coolbulbs harness, then you will see what I mean.

They're better, I went from a 98 1500 Sport with the old style lights, to this 2001 3500, and noticed the difference immediately.

They ain't Hellas or PIAA, or even your favorite Teutonic blue, but acceptable. Hope somebody else chimes in here about the conversion specs, sorry I can't help there. Better bulbs are my next step...

If I were to order the Coolbulbs harness, which one do I get? the 9004 or the 9007 one?

Also, what are the best bulb upgrades? I'm hearing Silverstar and some others, so not sure which to get...

Will that work?

What bulb numbers are correct for the sport headlights. Aren't they 9004 and a 9007? Are the plugs the same for the 9004 and 9007?

If they are different sockets, why not get two harnesses? I know it's more $$$, but it may be worth the extra time and headache.

I might buy a harness to use with my stock setup (until I save enough $$$ for the sport housings). I read some people have good success with just upgrading the wiring, but I'm sure the sport headlights would be better.

Cumminpwr11,

I have tired to call these people at least 10 times and I always get a busy signal. It make me skeptcial to order anything from them.

brighter lights

some kind of rewire with heavier wire to the headlights will give significantly better light. i rewired mine with 12 ga wire, fed by new relays, installed Wagner Bright Light bulbs, and have a lot more light down the road. i do have the Sport, and that also adds a lot of light down the road. have read good things about the silverstars, but at $25 per bulb, and with 2 9004's and 2 9007's in my truck, have been a little hesitant to spend $100 for new bulbs... .

94-98 DODGE RAM EURO CLEAR HEADLIGHTS/CORNER SET

I took a look at procarparts.com and they show 94-98 DODGE RAM EURO CLEAR HEADLIGHTS/CORNER SET for $209 and a '99 and up Sport Headlight Set for $219. The Euro lights appear to have dual headlight bulbs like the sport. Does anyone know if the Euro's are the sport headlight capsule with clear corners? If so they should be a great alternative for the '94 thru '98 trucks:)

Sorry to here about your trouble. When I got called I got right through. Try again, these light are great. I just installed piaa platinum ultra white bulbs and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. who needs a bright box with a set up like this. I sure don't

Wow, the sport lights are only $219. Thats not bad. I have found them locally for $230 after taxes for the set. What brand are these? I have found DEPO. They have wagner stamped on the assembly and the chrysler emblem on the lens. If they are the same quality, this would be a deal.

Zeew:

I would assume so, since the reason for the trimming is to make room for the inboard bulb on the headlights.

2 different headlamps

CumminzPwr11, their website makes it look like the Sport and Euro headlamps for the Ram are different units. Different description and PN. Too bad they don't have a picture of the Euros. It would be interesting to get a set and see what they look like. For $209 including bulbs that is hard to beat.

The two different units are for different years. the sport for the 99-01 have yellow refectors in the corners,

the 94-98 have what they call euro clears which hvae white reflectors.

Hope this helps yall

Well the new headlights are on. I still have not had a chance to test them at night. Right now I have three out of the four bulbs working. Last night when I drove home the headlights where not aimed right, and only had two bulbs working (outer two). The biggest improvement that I have made so far was to get rid of those POS 9007 bulbs. They don't have a true high and low beam, rather a normal and a dim filament. I knocked out two of the little tabs in the holes the bulbs go through so some 9004s would fit. 9004 have a 55 and 65-watt filament, and the 9007 has a 65-watt and a "pathetic filament". Those things aren't good for anything but daytime running lights on low beam. 9007s are also wired backwards. The bright filament comes on with the low beams, and the pathetic one comes on with the high beams. Anyone doing the conversion will be way better off using the 9004 bulbs. If I had a sport truck, I would knock two tabs off of the housing, and use the 9004 bulbs too. BTW the tabs to knock off are the two that are the closest together, that way the three notches that the retaining ring tabs go though are lined up and the bulb can be installed. If you knock off the wrong two tabs, those notches won’t line up, and you won’t be able to get the retaining ring back on to hold the bulb in. I don’t want to spend 35 bucks for any DOT certified POS bulbs, even if they are from PIAA. I will be getting another harness from coolbulbs so I have wiring capable of handling 400 watts of lighting. I will be getting some more of the 80/100 watt halogen bulbs from Susquehanna MotorSports at www.rallylights.com. That is the cheapest place I have found for those bulbs. So in the end, I will have two of the wiring harnesses from coolbulbs, four 80/100 watt 9004 bulbs from Susquehanna, and the factory sport headlights. I should be able to vaporize any obstacles in the road at night. Bombed headlights…………. cool.  :D :D :D

BTW the wall I hit took out both fenders, so I had them put fenders for a 99 or newer on so I would't have to cut any sheet metal. My old fenders would have to be trimmed a bit.

Cumminpwr11, thanks for the clarification :) (and I spelled your handle right this time).

CAnderson, thanks for the tip on the 9007 bulbs. My only concern with upping wattage is overheating and discoloring or warping the headlamp assembles. Like when it is a hot summer night and you pull off and stop along the road and you leave the high beams on. Just a thought.
