Wife and I are looking at 04 3500 4x4 quad short boxes. One that fits our needs also has the sport package that includes a painted grille and colored front bumper, which we don’t like so well. Any body know exactly what the differences are in that bumper as compared to standard, could it be switched, is there a regular bumper lurking behind the plastic cover. The truck we like also has fogs.

We have a van with a full painted front now and I know from experience it’s a real bear to keep the bugs cleaned of it in the summer. Not to keen on having the same problem with a new truck.

In an unrelated question, can we order inner fenders, the plastic liners, for the rear on one of these short boxes from DC parts. They used to be there from factory, guess DC would rather save a couple of pennies and let me worry about rusty spring perches etc later.

I'm not a big fan of the sport trucks either... they look a little cheesy... like something you might see on "The A-Team"

but, they do fetch a premium, and I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't have much trouble finding someone with a non-sport truck in whatever color you've found that would be willing to trade you straight across for the parts... maybe even get a little money out of the deal or get them to do the labor.

that's kind of what i was hoping to hear, maybe some others will offer up an opinion, if we get this truck i'll post a "wanna trade" ad and see what happens.

ps, really aimed to post this to the 3rd gen forum and goofed!

no worries, I'm willing to bet that when/if you get the truck, a post on the 3rd gen will probably find someone wanting to trade pretty quickly.

Forrest

just realized a typo in my first post, should have read 2500, NOT 3500, maybe the inner fender question will make more sense now, sorry for all the confusion, some times my fingers type before receiving a signal from my brain.

thanks for the input, Forrest

Forrest, I happen to like cheese. I applied to the A-Team but turned me down. :D

Kinda like my cheesy truck, too ;) . I guess it's a matter of taste (I prefer cheddar) . The front bumper has a plastic covering on it and, for me, it seems quite easy to keep clean, no problem with the bugs (at least the east coast variety). The rear bumper is painted. It's all in what you like.

Mopar has the wheel well liners for these trucks. Took less than half an hour to install and they fit and look as good as the old 2G ones. Too bad my truck looks Cheesy!

I agree you should have little or no trouble changing the parts. Personally, I think the sports look nicer, but I didn't get one because of the fear of rock chips in the winter here. I do alot of driving up to the ski hill and the 3/4" crush they use instead of sand around here really makes me

99guy, I know someone that would probably switch with you. Mine didn't have a sport bumper, and being a laramie, the upper half of the front bumper was color coded, and it still gets chips, and bug crap on it. Here in Arizona, the bugs aren't the real problem, it's the rocks that get kicked up from other vehicles on the road.

If you decide on a silver one, I have one of those off my truck tucked away, since I have a winch bumper on it now.

CHROME GRILL :-{} SPORT GRILL

I traded my chrome grill for the "cheesy" variety with big hammer. The chrome look made the front of my truck look huge IMO.

But I like the look of the sport gill and the chrome bumper, eventually I will put the chrome grill inserts in. BH could probably tell you about the bumpers because he replaced his with an aftermarket version. My link below will show before and after pics.

didn't meant to ruffle any feathers... :(

to each their own. I was mainly letting him know that there's sure to be someone out there who'll trade with him. :D

i don't much like chrome myself;)... havardi or swiss please :-laf

I will be taking off the cheesy silver bumper to install aluminum one early in new year. Not to get rid of it, deer are damn expensive when they decide to check out your rad & we have thousands of the darn things up here. In the summer when bugs are real bad & I am going on the highway I spray the front with Pam no-stick & bugs come off a lot easier. Pr soak with a diluted degreaser will also make it easier to get them off but they don"t taste as good. :D Oo.

Ah, the power of cheese …. Back to the point, purchased the truck today, the white one, sport package. Made the deal via the net and phone with Woodhouse in Nebraska. Way, way, way better deal than anything local. And get this, I call to let them know I’ll take it around 3pm today, salesman calls back around 4:30 pm and wants to know if it would be OK if they delivered it to my doorstep, when? … tomorrow. :--) They are near 4 hours away! I was expecting this process would take several days. We’ll as you can imagine I said, well I guess, if you really must deliver it that soon … I guess that’s OK. ;) Can’t say enough good about them! Makes buying the truck fun!

Looks like it wouldn’t be hard to find a trade-out for my bumper & grill. I suspect mama and I may have to take a road trip before we start yanking parts off though. If I decide for sure to swap I’ll start a new topic.

Thanks for the input, gotta run, need to update our profile ya know!

;):D
