.357 SIG, Again
Seriously, if I didn't already have 2 . 45s - the Kimber and a Springfield 1911A1 - I'd absolutely get something in . 357 SIG caliber. SIG, Glock and some others all make pistols in this caliber now. As I said, it's a bottleneck cartridge (. 40 case necked down to 9 mm bullet) so the chance of a misfeed is about zero. Also, being physically smaller than . 45 cartridge allows higher magazine capacity - SIG P229 holds 10 for civilians - and stopping power nearly equals . 357 magnum and . 45 ACP. FPS usually runs close to 1400 fps
My nephew is major league federal LEO - mostly undercover - told me a couple weeks ago that his latest guvmint issue duty pistol is a SIG (P229) in . 357 cal. Our tax $$$ at work
He said "I can see now why you've been hyping this round to me for the last 5 years. Awesome"
BTW, he routinely hits center-of-mass at 50 yds.
Another nice feature with . 357 SIG cal. is the the SIG pistols have an available . 40 cal barrel which is interchangeable with the . 357 barrel for those so inclined who want one pistol that shoots both. Uses same magazines for both calibers.
So will24, bottom line is I would look seriously at that Springfield XD - 4" barrel, . 357 Sig caliber. Also check out the ported model - same gun, just ported barrel - less muzzle jump - faster on target followup shots, etc, etc. Looks like a helluva lot of gun for the $$$.
I sure love that Kimber but even though it's a compact it sure gets heavy after awhile
Hey, maybe I could keep the Kimber in the truck and get an XD for carry - hmmmmm. OK, I'm done now.
On second thought, I forgot to mention ammo. I've researched ballistics alot and find that Hydrashoks are good - that's what I carry, but also look at Reminton Golden Saber and Ranger SXT. The SXT is law enforcement only - it's too violent for us civilians
You all may remember the SXT by its original name ---> the dreaded Black Talon.
OK, this time I'm really done.
