Springfield Armory - XD 9mm?

Anyone have experience with the Springfield XD 4" barrel 9mm?





Specifically I am looking at the XD9104, 4" barrel with trijicon sights. I am going to apply for concealed carry here soon and the S & W model 39 I have now is a bit heavy to carry, and my WWII ithica 1911 is staying right in the case where it belongs (was my grandfathers side-arm)

I have had no personal experience with the XD but know a couple guys that owned them and had good experiences but traded them off for something else. These guys buy and sell guns faster than I change my underwear so no reflection on the gun. The models they owned were the $295 HS2000 versions before Springfield bought the company that builds them. I have a S&W 39 and I don't think there is that much difference between the XD and the 39 in weight and the XD has the high cap frame making the grip wider than the 39. If you want something compact take a look at a Glock or Kahr. In the summer I carry my Kahr K9 with a good holster and I forget it's there.

I have no personal experience with that weapon either, but most anything Springfield puts out is good stuff in my book. Looks like they borrowed from the Glock with the trigger safety and the 1911 with the grip safety.



Curious as to your choice of the 9mm for carry, not a . 40 cal fan ?



Most of the guys I work with go with the compact or sub-compact Glocks as we carry the 22 on-duty. We have been for about 8 years now, zero problems and I inspect them regularly as the armorer.

I have not heard any feed back on that model. They (Springfield) have a pretty good rep.



I recently obtained a Kimber Ultra Compact . 45 for concealed carry. It is small and has a lot of power. I carry it in a m. o. b. holster.



I was suprised when I was shooting it at the range. It was very accurate. I could feel/hear the 45 round banging the metal back stop. My . 40 does not make that kind of noise.



I went with . 45 because; I dont think I will be involved in anything unless it is up close and personal. Something like getting robbed or car jacked. I want the max effect from the first round out of the pipe. . 45 is still the King as far as Im concerned.



The 230 grain Hydra shocks look impressive.

don't have the 9 but have put over 2,000 rounds threw the 357sig with no problems. with the 9 you can get the 40s&w mags and they will hold 15 rounds and function with out a problem, have seen it done and dose work.

357 Sig. No doubt about it. Research the ballistics and you'll see what I mean. 1-shot stop equal to . 45 ACP and . 357 mag (well, darn close anyway). 357 Sig bottleneck cartridge = no jam/misfeed in semi-auto. I want one. Until I decide I can part with the $$$ for a Sig P239 or XD, I will continue to carry my crappy old Kimber compact . 45 ACP.

bought a SA XD . 40 4 inch 2 months ago, I really like this pistol! It is equal to or exceeds the accuracy in my 9mm & . 45 sigs. I highly recommend this gun, it is so easy to shoot accurately. Low felt recoil, nice sights, easy to love!

I would go for the . 40 cal instead of the 9mm. Better stopping power - recoil is not that much more and you get a little bigger bullet. Spirngfield Armory makes excellent weapons - I have some and I would't trade them for any colt or S&W. .

Gun tests magazine liked the XP.

They dont take advertising bucks, so you can trust their tests.

I do like the SD tho. Comfy , fits smaller hands well and allready has night sights. My G36 I added Night sights and a Lazermax which at the range I find @ 25 feet it's between 3/4 and 1 1/2 inches close. Pretty good with a sub compact 45 when drawn from benchtop.

Carry Guns

There are lots of good options out there for a carry gun these days. If I ever have to cap someone, I truly hope I have a 45 ACP of any flavor in my hands. There are slicker, fancier,and newer packages available than Mr. Browning`s 1911, but I do not think any of them will ever outlast it. DK.

BTW, Bill (Lins), did I mention the Krappy Kimber has Novak-style Trijicon sights and is brushed stainless w/ exotic wood grips??? Of course the exotic wood grips don't necessarily make it shoot better. How much crushing chest pain will you get if I tell you I paid about 500 clams for it - slightly used?



Loaded w/ Hydrashocks. They work good.



I've seen xrays of what used to be a femur that now looks like a six inch cloud of talcum powder - not one bone fragment larger than the . 40 hydrashock bullet which was left in there w/ the rest of the debris. Of course the shooter was aiming for center of mass and missed but the guy did go down.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys! Keep 'em coming, I'd rather hear people's opinions rather then just read articles. One of the attractive things I liked with the springfield was the price... list is $550 with trijicon sights...





I wish my hands were smaller, a buddy of mine has a glock I believe model 26 and it shoots nice but there's no place for my right hand pinky and half my ring finger

I can say that the 26 is short in the grip. My 36 is slightly longer and with the pierce extension any meathook will find home. Got a range near ya? try out a couple. Most ranges have the Glock series , sigs , berettas , and a few even have springfields. Give it a whirl YOU will be the best jdje as to whats right for you and your style.
