My next project is to replace ball joints, convert to free spin hubs, replace knuckle u joints, and possibly front rotors if it needs them by then.

From what i understand there are no better Ball joints than Carli.

as far af hubs, do i go spyntech or dynatrac?

what are the best greasable u joints for the halfshafts?

and i was planing on using ART front rotors, which come highly recomended.

what have you guys been using? and what is better quality. I don't mind paying for high quality parts that will last. as it is with only 52000 miles, allmost every front end component on this truck is shot.

thanks

Can't help on the hubs, I used the DT on my '03. Precision 464's are the replacement greaseable U joint. Be sure to install them so that the web with the grease fitting is under compression, not tension, and the fittings should face the center of the truck as opposed to facing the wheels.

my parts guy says go with dynatrac and he sells both. ha said the spyntecs stick out way too far on the single wheel 2500's

I can't speak on Spyntecs but the dynatrac with dynalocs is a very nice kit. Went together pretty easily and the dynalocs do not stick out much past the stock rims at all.

As Far as Balljoints go, Carli is the only way to go. They may be expensive though, but after going through 4 pairs (16 balljoints total) on stockers, carli ball joints would have saved the headache in the first place

Yeah, non-dually, you have to thing about it hard. The only thing I do not like about the dynatrac is the lack of protection for the ABS sensor and ring. Sypntecs do a very nice job of protecting both. Now take the Spyntec hubs and dynalocs and combine the two and you have a really nice setup :)

Sorry, I went through 4 sets (upper and lower both sides, 16 Ball joints total) before I went Carli. I just wish Carli came out with them sooner!

Well, I was interested in Spyntec a couple years ago. When I called to order, they had quit making the hub/gone out of business, or something. Dynatrac has been around awhile, and I'm glad I went with them.

That being said, they probably both make great products. The Dynaloc hubs are really nice!

I think the info about sypntec is incorrect. They are in business and doing quite well. The company making a special hub kit setup for EMS which has a hub that looks identical to sypntec went out of business (from what I have heard). I believe spyntec bought the hub design because when I went to purchase the EMS kit, it was on special order waiting list. Shortly after waiting about a month, spyntec had a dually kit .....

I did Dynatrac on my 02'. Four Wheel Parts is usually the cheapest place to buy the kit. They will have the kit on sale from time to time or they will have free or discounted install specials from time to time.

for those of you running the dynatrac hubs, did you use the standard warn locks or upgrade to the "Dynaloc's" for the extra $350? what is the difference?

thanks

whats warnlocks and dynalocks? i have dynatrac and i like them the only thing is that i have abs problem (front left and right open circuit)

dont really care for abs...

when you buy the dynatrac free spin hubs then come with warn lock switches, the knobs you turn to go in and out of 4 wheel drive. you can upgrade the kit for around $300 to the dynalock switches instead of warn. the dynalocks don't stick out at much and i believe they are made of heavier material. that is what i am tring to find out. allthough now i hear the dynalocks stick in the cold snow.

reguarding your abs. the spytec hubs enlose the abs ring and protect it where the dynatrac leaves it a little more exposed.

I upgraded to the Dynalocs, and I'm very glad I did. The Warn "premium" hubs use overseas pot metal and heavy duty chromed plastic. The Dynalocs are machined chromoly and steel.

Another major difference, is that the Dynalocs are 3/4" or 1" shorter than the Warns, so they don't protrude past the tire with the potential of impacting a rock, etc.

I was looking at the spyntecs and the hubs really slick out far on a single wheel stock wheel truck. around 2. 5 in out past stock hubcap. I don't know about that. I do like that they protect the abs ring, how have you guys with dynatrac setups made out with the abs getting dirty or hit by debris? can make up my mind on this one.

thanks for the pictures!

I'm not trying to necessarily promote one over the other... but I've had absolutely no problem with the ABS ring. I've got about 15k hard miles on mine now, including jumping the truck over railroad tracks more times than I can count, running through 30" of mud and water, driving over 500 miles of continuous gravel and dirt road at over 50 mph, etc.

I would be far more concerned about a protruding hub than an exposed ABS ring...

Well I used the cheapo warn hubs and never have had any issues. It seems like they forgot to make mine with plastic parts though?

Never had an issue with my ABS tone ring.
