Didn't have any security check issues on my return trip to the world

I was lucky when I left SEA in order was an Army DUST OFF crew to a Navy Hospital ship to Bannock & a UASF C9 Nightingale to Ramstein Germany when I was brought out of a induced coma for a month & a half & 9 surgeries later I was in Bathesda MD

The C-9 flight crews and medical staff were most amazing. Ready at a moment's notice to get their life saving missions accomplished.

I had my local library get the book "Sled driver".
Yea, they reminded me several times I need to be sure to return it.

Hey DavidC, have you ever read the book called the "Sled Driver"? It is about the SR71 and the pilots/RSO who flew that plane. The author was one of those pilots who flew this plane, some great photos of plane and in the near space were it flew.

HA HA HA Had a Full Bird WAF Nurse caring for me and went with me to Germany. I don't remember grabbing a handful of fanny but she asked me if I knew it was an Officers xxx? I supposedly told her yeah it does feel a little flabby She stayed my Nurse until they put me out. Seen her & the rest of the aircrew several times in Bethesda, they thought that one of their own (Air Force) being blown apart in combat was something special.

My wife bought me an SR71 a few years ago, other than being mahogany instead of black, it's a nice model.

Years ago at an orientation meeting at Oshkosh air venture I saw a guy wearing the HABU shoulder patch. I never got the chance to talk with him after that...he had to be a GIF or RSO on the SR @ Okinawa.

Vivian and I were going to visit the Boeing museum in 2018, but there was an active shooter at the airport, had everything locked down and it was our last day in the area. Might have to take another trip to the great Northwest.

Theoretically yes. Modern day SAMs like the 40N6 that travel at speeds of Mach 6 can intercept an SR 71 within an operational range of 250 miles upto an altitude of 18 miles. Moreover, the hostile SAM will fire a salvo of missiles(at least 2-3). So the SR 71 will have to jam, drop decoys and out manoeuvre the incoming hostile missiles.Modern day SAM systems can be loaded with libraries of 3D shapes that can be used by the seeker to identify targets and threats.

Its NOT SIMPLY going to outrun the SAM

On June 3, 1986 an SR 71 was on a mission over the Barents Sea. Six Mig 31 Foxhounds, vastly superior to the Mig25 Foxbat,performed a coordinated intercept that would have subjected the SR71 to an all-angle AAM attack that even a combination of high-altitude maneuverability and ECM could not have defeated. Fortunately for the American jet, the interception took place over international waters, but the Soviets proved their point.

In fact, the SR 71 was retired once the USSR started deploying S 300 SAMs in large numbers.

Once the Soviets had locked on once and on another flight 'boxed in' the SR71 over international waters such that they had a clear kill option available, it was all over for the SR71.

The SR71 would today be toast.

As a result of searching SR71 Blackbird on my smartphone, I have a different article each day when I open Google. I look forward to reading these each day. The last couple days have been accounts of Mig31 intercepts of SR71s, both from Soviet and American pilots.

This is very cool reading firsthand experiences. The YouTube videos are especially cool with both SR71 pilot and RSO accounts.
